| | Buck-O-Nine Libido CD Buck-O-Nine Discography of CDs
Right in step with their California ska-pop brothers Sugar Ray and Sublime comes San Diego's Buck-O-Nine. After more than five years of playing clubs, Buck-O-Nine attracted a loyal following with their raucous combination of ska, reggae and ... Full Descriptiona touch of The Clash. While others in their genre, such as the aforementioned California bands, as well as Boston's Mighty Mighty Bosstones, have gone on to major success, Buck-O-Nine remains something of an insider phenomenon with a strong, cult following.
However, LIBIDO, packed with crunching, over-driven guitars and stabbing horn lines, makes a strong case for Buck-O-Nine deserving a little more attention. From the energetic, radio-ready opening track, "Tell It Like It Was" to the acoustic guitar-driven "Swimming in Sand," and the Specials homage "All Along," Buck-O-Nine is at the top of the '90s ska/punk/pop pack.

CMJ (3/29/99, p.22) - "....LIBIDO certainly doesn't reinevent ska or punk, but it further proves the value of the two combined forms as worthy energy sources for lightheared pop..." Hide Description Libido Review

| | Less Than Jake Hello Rockview CD (1998)
Libido album
$13.79 Emerging as part of the third wave ska revival, Less Than Jake combines near-metal guitar with a punk-inflected rhythm section that splits its time between Jamaican rhythms and '90s pop-punk. The synthesized-sounding horns that accent the ska feel on several of the more syncopated tracks might sound cheesy, but that's sort of the point. Less Than Jake doesn't take itself or anything else all that seriously, and they don't expect you to either. Their image and sound are essentially light-hearted and comical (the CD booklet contains a 12-page cartoon), but that doesn't stop Less Than Jake from raging through HELLO ROCKVIEW like there's a prize for whoever gets to the end of the last song first. Equal parts pop, punk and ska, the album will put off purists of all stripes, but should appeal to those who don't expect spiritual enlightenment from a bunch of rock musicians.
Recorded at Mirror Image Studios, Gainsville, Florida.
Less Than Jake: Chris (vocals, guitar); Roger (vocals, bass); Derron (baritone saxophone); Buddy, Pete (trombone); Vinnie (drums).
Additional personnel: Howard Benson (keyboards).

| | Wall-E Wall*E CD (2008) Digipak
Libido album
$15.65 The soundtrack to the 2008 Pixar animated film WALL*E consists primarily of composer Thomas Newman's orchestral score. As with his music for FINDING NEMO, Newman mixes grand symphonic passages (the sweeping "2815 A.D.") with lighter chamber pieces (the easy-going "Bubble Wrap"), resulting in an emotionally engaging album that can stand on its own merits. The collection also includes "Down to Earth," an atmospheric pop tune by Newman and Peter Gabriel.
Composer: Thomas Newman.
Personnel: Thomas Newman.
