Meant to show to the world at large that his music was ready for the concert stage, and that he was ready for live exposure (Oldfield suffered for many years from stage fright), Exposed is sometimes wonderful, sometimes bombastic. This double-CD set consists of performances of "Tubular Bells" and "Incantations," the latter abbreviated considerably, with "Guilty" tossed in for good measure. ~ Steven McDonald

3 stars A Must Have...
Without question, a must have for any Oldfield officianado. Oldfield in finest of form and true to his tradition. Part I is sweeping and evocative; rich in flavor and texture. Maddy Prior is simply haunting, reprieving Longfellow's Hiawatha from Incantations. And then, of course there's Tubular Bells. In many ways TB is no different than some of the greatest symphonies; a piece yearning to be played in public by a "large rock-orchestra". Though a little tinny (brassy) in moments, a spectacular piece. I recall reading in the ledger notes that though well received, the Exposed Tour was a financial flop. I might suggest that some tours need to transcend financial goals or gains for the greater purpose of sharing... exposing (pardon the pun) with the faithful and the neophytes the incredible talent (awesome might) of this musical alchemist. Where the hell was I? Why didn't I jump the pond to see this monumental event?
