How Blue Can You Get album
$12.59 Over the years, Curtis Fuller has recorded the majority of his albums in New York City. But when the veteran trombonist visited Chicago for the Chicago Jazz Festival in 2003, he joined forces with several Windy City musicians (including Karl Montzka on piano, Larry Gray or Stewart Miller on bass, and Tim Davis on drums) and recorded Up Jumped Spring for Bob Koester's Chicago-based Delmark label. Trumpeter Brad Goode (who was a fixture on the Chi-Town jazz scene before moving to Cincinnati in 1997) is also on board, as is singer Jacey Falk (who produced the album). Fuller (who was 68 when he recorded Up Jumped Spring) was one of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in his younger days, and not surprisingly, a strong Jazz Messengers influence ...
| | Keb' Mo' Keep It Simple CD (2004)
How Blue Can You Get CD music
$6.25 For his fifth studio album, KEEP IT SIMPLE, Keb' Mo' adhered to the title's advice and cut out any middleman by taking the production reins himself. As a result, the California native came away with a dozen songs that are perhaps the most personal of his career. Playing a combination of finger-picked and slide guitar, Mo' lends a tasty, fat tone to these tales of intimate relationships (the Bonnie Raitt-flavored "One Friend," featuring Shannon Curfman), simpler times (the harmonica-soaked, ...

How Blue Can You Get songs
$12.35 AMERICAN MUSIC delivers 13 tracks in the big band, horn-dominated context Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown fans have come to love. The sound here, as orchestrated by Wardell Quezergue, is polished, airtight, and, at times, positively overwhelming. Brown's guitar (characterized here by a subtler, jazzier feel than the slashing attack of his youth) and violin playing are showcased in the opener, "Rock My Blues Away." The pace quickens with wildly swinging cuts such as "Half Steppin'" and the Jay McShann/Charlie Parker number "Jumpin' ...
| | Billy Stewart One More Time CD (1990) Chess Years
How Blue Can You Get album
$8.49 This 20 track CD covers Stewart's entire career on Chess. The first song, "Billy's Blues, Part 2" was recorded in 1956 when Stewart was Bo Diddley's piano player.
Put on Billy Stewart's One More Time: The Chess Years. When you hear Bo Diddley's opening guitar on "Billy Blues," you know you're listening to something special. Billy Stewart ices the cake with a hiccupping, apologetic vocal. That lovely guitar melody was plagiarized and reappeared as "Love Is Strange," a big hit for Mickey & Sylvia. It doesn't ...
