SOLO contains albums MR. BAD GUY and BARCELONA, as well as a bonus CD of hits and rarities.
Digitally remastered by Eddy Schreyer (Future Disc Systems, Hollywood, California).
SOLO is a snazzy repackaging of the late Queen frontman's solo career, with improved sonics. It includes Freddie Mercury's two official Queen-less albums, including BARCELONA, his jaw-droppingly bizarre collaboration with opera star Montserrat Caballe (who, besides Mercury, could ever have imagined such a pairing?), plus a bonus CD of singles and rarities.
The latter disc contains some of Mercury's best music. It includes a beautiful Phil Spector-ish version of "I Can Hear Music" (originally released, at the height of Gary Glitter's fame, under the parodic nom du disque Larry Lurex), and a wonderfully over the top remake of the Platters' "The Great Pretender."
Includes liner notes by Greg Brooks.
Digitally remastered by Peter Mew (Abbey Road Studios).

| Solo Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) A talent the world lost too soon. . . A must have for anyone who relished in Freddie's widespread musical talent. From singing "In My Defence" with such conviction, to belting out "Barcelona" like no other could, Freddie was most definitely "Made in Heaven". Freddie Mercury lives on in his music In my opinion,Freddie Mercury was a musical genius -- his rendition of "The Great Pretender" makes it a new song, all his own. The tracks from his album, "Barcelona", are another example of his fantastic musical abilities. Freddie Mercury could sing and compose with the best. To me, he is/was a modern-day Mozart, with his voice being his sublime instrument. Don't miss "How Can I Go On?" Submitted by a reviewer (North Port, FL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Purchase Solo CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Queen Innuendo CD (1991)
Solo album
$11.99 INNUENDO would turn out to be Queen's swan song, as it was the last album released during vocalist Freddie Mercury's lifetime--he passed away several months after the album's release. Expanding on the successful back-to-basics sound of 1989's THE MIRACLE, INNUENDO was another solid outing. And like it's predecessor, it contains several tracks with lyrics that are clearly autobiographical for the band and especially Mercury, particularly "These Are the Days of Our Lives" and "The Show Must Go On," which deal with the topic of mortality.
Not all of INNUENDO deals with serious topics, however--"I'm Going Slightly Mad" and "Delilah" both contain humorous lyrics and were designed to be taken ...
| | Queen Hot Space CD (1982)
Solo CD music
$12.05 1982's HOT SPACE is by far the most controversial album Queen ever released. Coming off a major disco hit with 1980's "Another One Bites The Dust," the band decided to take it a step further and released an album comprised mostly of tunes crafted from the same dance mold. This wouldn't have been a big deal for some bands, but the majority of Queen's fans were rock n' rollers, not disco buffs. Looking back, the band admits some trepidation at releasing HOT SPACE when they did, but there are indeed ...
| | Queen Made In Heaven CD (1995)
Solo music CDs
$12.59 Not a posthumous collection of odds and ends but an album actually recorded in the final months of Freddie Mercury's struggle with AIDS, MADE IN HEAVEN is full-force Queen. Their dynamic theatrics charge the album, as Mercury's unrivaled voice and the band's grand production aesthetic resound clearer than ever before.
MADE IN HEAVEN captures all the explosiveness that made Queen one of the most magical big-rock bands of the '70s and '80s. Mercury's ...

| | Wanna Meet The Scruffs? CD (1977) (Import) Bonus Tracks; United Kingdom
Solo album
$12.23 There must have been something in the water in 1970s Memphis. Not only did the town turn out an unprecedented amount of great R&B, it also hosted a sterling power-pop scene including Big Star, Tommy Hoehn, Van Duren, and Anglophile quartet the Scruffs. Led by McCartney-esque vocalist Stephen Burns, the Scruffs mixed Beatle worship, Big Star-ish rockers, and Raspberries-like pop on their 1977 debut album, WANNA MEET THE SCRUFFS? which became a power-pop cult classic. The Scruffs split up in '79 (though Burns would lead a new version decades later) but the melodic charms and punchy pop hooks of this album are a timeless treat.
2008 digitally remastered edition of the debut album from the Memphis band that tried to ride the New Wave of Power Pop of the time, but failed to catch fire across the country. Their hook-laden Raspberries-like ...

| | Neil Young Hawks & Doves CD (1980) Remastered
Solo music CDs
$6.39 All tracks have been digitally remastered using HDCD technology.
Following up the energetic, one-two punch of RUST NEVER SLEEPS and LIVE RUST, Neil Young takes a more understated route with 1980's HAWKS & DOVES. On rustic tracks such as "Little Wing" and "The Old Homestead" (both written in the mid-'70s), Young revisits his HARVEST era with a spare sound that relies heavily on his distinctive voice and acoustic guitar. As the album progresses, its scope widens both musically and lyrically; "Stayin' Power" is a jaunty, piano-driven tune about the power of love, while "Comin' Apart at Every Nail" is a guitar-laden hoedown that comments on the US government. This surprisingly ...
