By now Aerosmith's story of survival is deeply imbedded in rock mythology. Band reaches outlandish stadium-sized stardom in the `70s; band splinters under the weight of their toxic abuse; members undergo detox; clean and sober band returns to a new apex of superstardom in the `90s: a classic tale of excess and success. It is rock 'n' roll's great American redemption, and BIG ONES is a greatest hits soundtrack to the comeback portion of this story--with two new tunes to serve as an encore of sorts.

BIG ONES also illustrates that the Aerosmith that's come to define current mainstream rock is not the Aerosmith of old. The blues-veined, pocket-Stones sound that introduced white boys to "Walking The Dog" has given way to lascivious arena-metal ("Love In An Elevator," "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)") and emotional power-ballads ("Angel", "Cryin'"). Age has also brought about a change in the topics that the band chooses to address, concerning themselves with child abuse in "Janie's Got A Gun," and morality in "Living On The Edge."

Yet, with Aerosmith what you see is what you get--therein lies the beauty--and even with the mild tinkering of the machinery, BIG ONES proves that their commercial train just keeps a-rollin'.

5 stars A GREAT CHOICE OF SONGS ON THIS ONE
If you don't want to invest in one of AEROSMITH's box sets, then you might want to get BIG ONES for all their mid 80's-94. This has all the best hits from that era.

5 stars great choice from great time
I believe it is the great choice from the best Aerosmith time. Enjoy! If something could be better - the order of the songs. Hard and slow pieces goes together and sometimes it is too long to sweet.

3 stars sweet?
I'm disappointed that "Sweet Emotion" was not included on this album. I would consider that one of Aerosmith's Big Ones.

5 stars This is Aerosmith's geffen recording years collection!
Now this was something completely different for Aerosmith. It was the groups comeback moment since they suffered from their own turblent time in the late 80's they had. Into the 90's band member Steven Tyler and his boys returned from hard times with a whole approach and new musical career direction. These were the hit songs that got them back on their feet like "Dude Is Like A Lady", "Love In An Elevator", Eat The Rich", "Cryin" and "Janie's Got A Gun"!

Instead of being the return to form it was clearly intended to be, Manic Street Preachers' sixth album, Know Your Enemy, sucked the life out of the band, collapsing in a heap of bad reviews and ill will. It was such a wrong move that even the band acknowledged that things went wrong, so they took some time off to regroup, issuing a hits collection Forever Delayed in 2002, with a B-sides and rarities comp Lipstick Traces following in 2003. The decks being suitably cleared, the band eased back in late 2004 with their seventh album Lifeblood, a record that takes the MOR/AOR inclinations of This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours to ...

This CD contains two original albums, Holiday For Trombones and One Of Those Songs, recorded in1967-68 by a studio recording group called “Trombones Unlimited.” That is, we were hired to go into astudio and read this music and record it live. There were some vocal and flute overdubs later, but everythingwe did was live. “We” at this time were Frank Rosolino and Mike Barone on trombones, and BobbyKnight on bass trombone. We never had a recording contract––we just played for scale and went home. There were some very good jazz players and studio players on these dates. A few that I can remember were Nick Ceroli (drums), Carol Kaye (bass),Julius Wechter, Victor Feldman, Larry Bunker and Emile Richards (percussion and mallets), John Pisano, Tommy Tedesco, Dennis Budimir (guitars),Mike Melvoin (piano), Jim Horn (flute and baritone sax), and others I can’t recall. – Mike BaroneFrank Rosolino, who died in 1978, will always be remembered and respected throughout the contemporary jazz world for his mastery of the trombone, his uncanny ability to fit and work successfully with a wide range of musical ideas, and perhaps last but not entirely forgotten, his wit andcapacity for comic entertainment. His career started in earnest in early 1946 playing with a great variety of bands…Bob Chester, Glen Gray, GeneKrupa, Tony Pastor, Herbie Fields, Georgie Auld, and with his own groups in Detroit . His first major break came when he was offered the jazz chairwith the great Stan Kenton Band in 1952 and he was one of the featured soloists with Kenton through late 1954. Earlier, he had joined and recordedwith the Howard Rumsey Lighthouse All Stars. Rosolino had played with Donn Trenner's House Band on the Steve Allen TV show, Conti Condoliin 1973 and 1975, Quincy Jones and Benny Carter, and he was the featured soloist on a tour with Supersax. Rosolino had recorded with TerryGibbs, Zoot Sims, Dexter Gorden, Don Menza and others too numerous ...
