FIRECRACKER was nominated for the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.
You remember, don't you? The impossibly winsome girl with the tortoise-shell specs who staged a bloodless coup on MTV thanks to a strategically-placed cut on the REALITY BITES soundtrack? The one who shamelessly pledged allegiance to Olivia Newton John and endeared herself to every teenage girl with a diary full of subversive secrets? She's back for a second round of radio-friendly alterna-pop on FIRECRACKER. Loeb earned a Grammy nomination for her last effort, and a legion of fans who will find this album full of the same sparkly pop-rock confections they gobbled up so avidly on the gold-certified TAILS.

Rolling Stone (11/27/97, p.110) - 2.5 Stars (out of 5) - "...disappointing....staid arrangements and lackluster riffs. Loeb's songwriting and delivery haven't aged as much as she apparently thinks they have, either..." Spin (2/98, p.103) - 5 (out of 10) - "...Record companies don't know what to do with talented, smart indie girls with guitars....Problem is, Loeb was a bit of a pale indie-imitation from the start: like her debut TAILS, FIRECRACKER is underwhelming and middlebrow, overproduced and pointlessly moody..." Entertainment Weekly (11/14/97, p.92) - "...Loeb's earnest confessionals are melodically attractive, but the album's chilly, relentlessly polite musical approach is at odds with the artist's soul-baring lyrical stance..." - Rating: C

Direct and Moving Songs Firecracker is simply an honest, stark, yet moving piece of work. This young woman is capable of some great musical moments I DO, and SPLIT SECOND are high points you don't want to miss! Submitted by leo.rex (London, England) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Maybe better than At first, I thought nothing could beat Lisa's CD "tails" so when I got this I wasn't ready for her putting in the same magic. It took me a while, but I can't leave this one out of my stereo for more than a few days Submitted by MUSICALKAT (Wilmington, DE) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
