PLAYS LIVE (HIGHLIGHTS) are highlights from 4 different North American concerts between December 1982 and Spring 1983.

PLAYS LIVE is the sound of a man finally freeing himself definitively from the shackles that had bound him for years. Admittedly those shackles, being front man for Genesis, one of the most fascinating and consistently creative prog-rock bands of the early '70s, were hardly severe. But they were a constraint nonetheless. (How often could Peter take some fan screaming "Suppers Ready" when trying to debut new material?) Finally, with a substantial body of solo material (four albums, three of them titled PETER GABRIEL), Gabriel was ready to put the ghost of Genesis to rest.
And while he did drive a stake through his art-rock past, Gabriel's incendiary stage presence could not be distinguished. Luckily the live set captured here, which draws heavily from the SECURITY album, is consistently first rate and involving. Not content just to breath fresh life into road-weary veterans like "D.I.Y" or "Solsbury Hill," Gabriel reaches for new emotional heights on stellar versions of "San Jacinto," "Biko" and "And Through The Wire." As a bonus for completists PLAYS LIVE also contains the ultra-rare "I Go Swimming." Overall an excellent portrait of Gabriel's live show.

Bought this in hopes of getting the complete album remastered, as the US CD and SACD savagely cut songs out of this masterpiece. This is just a re-release of the original, so don't get your hopes up... If you don't own Plays Live, this is the one to buy. It is one of the greatest live albums of all time. Maybe, the greatest.

Songs like the Rythm of the Heat and San Jacinto cannot be beat. You need to crank up the volume and feel his passion in his music like you will in his album titled "Passion" Peter Gabriel plays Live is among the greatest of all music!!

This cd is fantastic! Peter Gabriel is hauntingly brilliant. You will listen to it late at night, in the dark, with your headphones on. Enjoy!

It was widely assumed that when vocalist/songwriter Jon Anderson left Yes at the end of the '70s, the band was doomed. Most folks forgot that bassist/composer Chris Squire was the other founding member of the band, and he had as much to do with their sound as Anderson. It was surprising enough when the band decided to continue with a new vocalist and keyboardist. It was even more surprising when the new members turned out to be Trevor Horn (later a famed pop producer) and Geoff Downes (who would soon depart with Steve Howe for Asia). And it was downright shocking when the resultant album DRAMA turned out to be a great one.
While Horn's voice is in the same general range as Anderson's, he tends to blend more with the vocals of Howe and Squire for a distinctive three-part harmony sound. Similarly, the individual instrumental statements of Howe and Downes avoid grandstanding in favor of the group dynamic. Consequently, DRAMA is one of Yes' most direct, concise offerings, full of relatively short songs that still maintain all the Yes ...

When Jon Anderson rejoined Yes after DRAMA, he was inserting himself into an unusual situation. Keyboardist Geoff Downes and longtime guitarist Steve Howe had left to form Asia with prog rock vets John Wetton (King Crimson, Roxy Music etc.) and Carl Palmer (ELP). Chris Squire and Alan White brought original Yes keysman Tony Kaye back and recruited vibrant young Australian guitarist/vocalist/composer Trevor Rabin. The quartet had already begun writing and recording, but Anderson was able to insert himself into the proceedings with such ease that the new combination sounds completely natural on 90125.
Mostly, the band was concerned with trimming the musical fat to keep pace with the onslaught of the 1980s. Thus, tracks like "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and "City of Love" are full of samples, splices and almost funky beats and riffs. The unusual time changes and complex riffs of tunes like "Changes" and "Cinema" leave little doubt that this is still a Yes album, but ...

When a song called "Fall on Me", was recently played on Johnnie Walkers Drive Time show on BBC Radio 2, he was inundated with e-mails wanting to know who this new singer songwriter was, where they could find out about her, and most importantly would he please play more. He had so many requests that he plugged her website the next day, and informed the listeners that it was taken from "Montpelier" a debut album by a singer songwriter called Jane Taylor who was from Bristol and who bizarrely enough wasn’t even signed to a major label. He played her song again the next day only to be inundated once more with questions and messages of more please... Hits to the website, e-mails to Jane herself and orders for the CD came flooding in... with a BBC Radio 2 Live session booked for Feb 2nd 2006 on The Johnnie Walker Drive Time Show, the journey begins...But Jane Taylor’s journey really started some three years earlier when she decided to give up life working in the real world and focus her attention on the fact that she’d been writing songs since she was little, and maybe there was something in that.Walking into a Bristol studio to record her first single she fantastically bumped in to Angelo Bruschini, the guitarist from Massive Attack who was so intrigued by her sound that he offered to play guitar for her. The single was called Blowing This Candle out, and it became the first recorded track of her EP,Barefoot, which she went on to release at Ronnie Scotts. She booked her first UK tour and together with local BBC radio interviews and live sessions she began to build up her fan base across the UK. In 2003 she won the International competition ‘Reach’ and, supported by her band, toured Ireland with three other bands from the USA and Canada. She then went on to win both the UK and the International Song writing Competition, again with her single 'Blowing This Candle Out', in the singer/songwriter category where no less than 11,000 people entered. Last year, she appeared on the arts program ‘Earshot’ for HTV and more recently her song 'Getting To Me' ...
