Billy Corgan probably never smashed a pumpkin in his life. He was too busy making fun of the macho oafs who fueled their teen angst with power chords and cheap beer. Corgan is much more the type to hide in his room and write sweet songs or bash out manic sludgefests with tricky titles. "Plume," being the perfect example, finds Corgan boasting "my boredom outshines the sun."
Boasting aside, Corgan's boredom is not contagious or completely self-serving. PISCES ISCARIOT is a collection of B-sides and rarities that, even more than GISH or SIAMESE DREAM, offers insight into the workings of one of alternative rock's most sought-after songwriters.
Corgan's introspective quiet side is exemplified by his cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" and the Corgan original "Soothe," which, in the spirit of lo-fi, he recorded in his apartment. The other side of the Smashing Pumpkins' sound is James Iha's driving guitar, a psychedelic sonic blast that is quickly distinguishable from the ranks of AOR and typical grungy alterna-rock. this is a collection of b-sides from the early pumpkins era (gish and siamese dream). you would never know! the quality of all the tracks here is absolutely sensational and better than most other bands could produce in the whole career. "landslide" is a cover of the fleetwood mac classic and is a wonderful song (one of the albums highlights). this along with songs like "whir" "obscured" and "soothe" show the mellower side of SP. tracks like "frail and bedazzled" "hello kitty kat" "pissant" and "plume" show the heavier side. all the songs apart from the closing track "spaced" which is the only slight disappointment, are amazing!! my personal favourite is "starla". this is an 11minute epic which builds up from a beautiful mellow guitar riff into a thunderous heavy one before a small refrain, leading onto one of the most breathtaking lead breaks in rock history....absolutely orgasmic!!! BUY THIS ALBUM...you will NOT be disappointed ***** 9/10

Although the music on this cd doesn't sound anything like the SP era that it was released, it is still a great work of art. My personal favorites on this cd are "Hello Kitty Kat","Girl Named Sandoz","Pissant","Plume",and "Frail and Bedazzled".

The pumpkins have never put out a bad piece of work. This album is so powerful, that even billy's guitar playing will bring tears to your eyes. If you liked siamese dream, you will definately enjoy this CD.

IF you like the heavier side of Billy, get this. This is my second favorite Album of the pumpkins(1st being mellon collie). I love Pissant, Girl named sandoz, and plume the most. But they are all good.
