What do you do when you've already changed the face of music once in a decade? If you're Bristol, UK sonic architects Massive Attack, you refine the model for the times. MEZZANINE, the third album from the producer/DJ crew who, for all intents ... Full Descriptionand purposes, created the genre of trip-hop, is thicker, less spacious and far more guitar-heavy than their previous efforts. Then again, the blue-print remains: hip-hop beats, behemoth bass underpinnings and spare melodic overtones still control Massive Attack's drive. After all, one doesn't expect the inventors to abandon their discoveries just because every pop new jack is onto their gold mine.
This is a limited-edition CD Digipak.
Recorded at Massive Attack and Christchurch Studios, Bristol, England.

Real masterpiece This album of Massive Attack is a real masterpiece in music. I mean it. Ultimate professionality. Every track in this album was my the most favourite in different periods. Especially 'Angel' - I can't tell why I love this song; maybe it's just a reflection of rage feelings. Tenderness of Liz Fraser's voice in 'Black Milk' is perfect. Well, as they say, it's better one time to listen then 100 times to hear. If you want to know what music can be, this album have to be your guide. A Classic is Born Im tired so this will be short but sweet. This CD is an amazing melting pot of everything Massive Attack is. Very intense, beautiful, haunting and ahead of its time. BUY IT! Submitted by David Jeannelle (Dever, Colorado USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
stunning (and theyre local!!) yeeeeeeessss!!!! this amazing band from my home city bristol has now 5 albums to their name (including the remix album "no protection" and their new album "100th window"), and this is the best! it is just so atmospheric and dark (the sort of thing thats best listened to in a dark, confined space). the first three tracks are outstanding but are all very different - "teardrop" is a beautiful song, brilliantly sung by...i can't remember her name but she has a lovely voice. "angel" is excellent, and "risingson" is my joint favourite on the album alongside teardrop because the atmosphere the song produces by the bassline, strange sounds and creepy vocals of 3D and daddy-g - both perfect for this song and album. the rest of the album is also amazing but i think you would like me to shut up so i will end now by saying that this album is a true classic and everyone should own it. Mezzanine album
$12.49 Bristol's trip-hop pioneers crystallize their melancholic splendor on PROTECTION. It's a simmering shadow of a soundtrack to urban life, where dub, hip-hop, electronica and soul mesh into something quite singular. Imagine the chilling threnody of scene-mates Portishead allied with rough dancehall, club and South Bronx bass-beats, set ablaze by Mushroom, 3-D and Daddy-G's sour gaze into the millennial horizon. A host of fine guest vocalists help drive the vocal tunes, in turn making the instrumentals stand out all the more.
It is a juxtaposition of cold and hot, alienation and unity, that informs PROTECTION. Tracey Thorn of Everything But The Girl steals ...

| | Portishead Dummy CD (1994)
Mezzanine music CDs
$11.99 Named for a town near Bristol, England, Portishead is a British dance band that grabs ideas from all over the mod pop world (spaghetti Western guitars, turntable scratching, melancholy soul vocals, atmospheric organs, house beats) and stirs them into spacey, dub-like productions that sound like a dance club in the middle of a "Twin Peaks" dream. You could call it surreal hip-hop pop. But if the beats on the band's debut album achieve a kind of trance-like static, the songs themselves reach for something more rousing. With understated lyrics and overstated melodies, singer ...
| | Madonna Ray Of Light CD (1998)
Mezzanine songs
$11.55 RAY OF LIGHT won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Pop Album and for Best Recording Package, and was nominated for Album Of The Year. "Ray Of Light" won the 1999 Grammy for Best Dance Recording and Best Short Form Music Video, and was nominated for Record Of The Year.
Relentlessly contemporary, RAY OF LIGHT pairs Madonna with producer William Orbit, an electronics wizard who has worked with major R&B acts and even such modern rockers as Blur and Depeche Mode. Reportedly, Madonna tried to snare Liam Howlett of high-strung techno-rockers the Prodigy into the project--Howlett claims to have turned her down. But the more dextrous, less in-your-face Orbit was probably a better choice anyway. He provides a dizzying array of soundscapes, incorporating everything from psychedelic-rock guitar to dub-reggae echo and cold, cutting techno beats for what critics are calling Madonna's most committed performance in years.
From the slow chill of the album's first single, "Frozen," to the disco-like title track, RAY OF ...
