POST ORGASMIC CHILL is an Enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
guitars); Cass (acoustic & electric basses, programming); Mark (drums, percussion).
Skunk Anansie has tended to visit Heaven and Hell in alternate breaths. Though POST ORGASMIC CHILL is less extreme, the songs still plummet from the highest, hardest of metal rages into the most blissful and plaintive of whispers. What sets this album apart from the previous two is the subtle use of electronica, unusual percussion, and even snippets of jungle-perhaps a belated response to Skunk Anansie's sampling by the Prodigy.
The first track "Charlie Big Potato" is typical. After a brief drum-and-bass intro, Skunk Anansie launches into a thumping guitar motif and incredible vocals that leap from a hushed murmur into passionate screams of anguish. The repetitive, churning guitar themes latch onto the brain while, in contrast, the very American string arrangements add extra emotive power. Skin's incredible voice is celebrated for articulating black-feminist rage, but it is just as wonderful on the ballads. These were actually the band's more successful singles. CHILL includes "You'll Follow Me Down," "Lately," and "Secretly," which exhibits a terrifically impassioned, empowering response to infidelity and a lovely, uncharacteristic haze of guitars in the central section.
Recorded at Bearsville Studios, Woodstock, New York and Clinton Studios, New York, New York.

This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.Q (4/99, p.98) - 3 Stars (out of 5) - "...intense, nasty, big and brutish: sonic warfare fed through speadkers, the singer enunciating words of fury so passionately, you can almost hear her teeth gnashing together..." Alternative Press (11/99, p.123) - 3 out of 5 - "...reflects the past 10 years of indie-guitar-rock preoccupations with surprising effectiveness....the best bits are those that find the band toying with less conventional, even dance-deranged, inflections..." Vibe (9/99, p.268) - "...the group's best, exploring both their fearless and vulnerable sides with equal determination..." Post Orgasmic Chill album
$11.35 NIGHT CASTLE appears just in time for the big 2009 holiday season but don't be fooled: this isn't a Christmas album, even if it's sonically indistinguishable from Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other seasonal releases, and the fact that it's been dubbed "Capra-esque" certainly brings it within the realm of the season. NIGHT CASTLE brims with all the drama, pomp, and circumstance of Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other records but channeling these traits through a newly created narrative does have the effect of hearing it in a somewhat new light, shifting the focus entirely to the band's attack, not melody. Still, there's not that much new here -- and the coda of seasonal covers, including the first sober version of "Nutrocker" ever cut, doesn't do much to break that spell. But for those already enchanted by the Orchestra, this will continue to enthrall.

Post Orgasmic Chill CD music
$13.39 Pink Martini follow the around-the-world-in-a-dozen-songs thrills of HEY EUGENE! with SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS, a mellower, simpler set of small pleasures. These are relative terms, however; the group's music is still well-traveled, with China Forbes singing in five languages (English, Spanish, Neapolitan, French, and Italian) instead of the six or so on EUGENE!. However, Pink Martini opt for a more unified sound here, one that draws on the more straightforward lounge-pop of their debut, SYMPATHIQUE, and the mellowness of '60s and '70s pop. SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS' first half is especially smooth, opening with the beautifully soft Neapolitan ballad "Ninna Nanna" and the title track, on which Forbes sings "I think we should take it slow" over swooping strings, brass, and piano that resurrect the glory days of AM pop; that feeling is echoed by the cover of Joe Raposo's "Sing," the Sesame Street song that gained popularity when the Carpenters performed it (Emilio Delgado, aka Sesame Street's Luis, duets with Forbes here in Spanish and English). The album's first few tracks are among its most playful, including the slinky ...

Shortly after Mitch Easter first gained buzz as the hot producer of the new jangle pop South courtesy of R.E.M.'s first three albums, the diminutive producer's own band, the resolutely adorable Let's Active, got its own I.R.S. Records contract, whereupon Easter released three albums and an EP featuring his peculiarly airy, winsome vocal style. Mitch Easter was, at the time, the only singer on the college rock scene who could make his old songwriting ...
