| | Yanni Live: The Concert Event CD (2006)
Busch Quartet - Brahms, Schumann / Rudolf Serkin
$14.19 This concert recording captures Yanni performing live in Las Vegas in 2005. Featuring a large, talented ensemble, LIVE emphasizes the Greek composer's penchant for sweeping musical vistas, highly charged instrumental interplay, and the fusion of styles from around the globe. Live strings and brass complement Yanni's trademark keyboards, while other instruments, including didgeridoo and hammered dulcimer, flesh out the sound. There is quite a bit of stretching out here, as Yanni allows the members of his band ample room to solo; however, atmosphere remains paramount in Yanni's music, and LIVE delivers on the artist's evocative, ethereal ...
| | John Zorn Music Romance Vol. 1: Music For Children CD (2009)
Busch Quartet - Brahms, Schumann / Rudolf Serkin
$13.09 This selection was re-mastered for its 10th anniversary in 2009, with a revised version of "Cycles du Nord" that includes bass drums and guitar noise.
Originally released in 1998 as the first in the MUSIC ROMANCE series, John Zorn's MUSIC FOR CHILDREN is something of a misnomer in that its contents, apart from a certain wide-ranging playfulness, have little to do with children (or romance for that matter). Rather, this is a highly eclectic entry from a composer-musician much noted for his eclecticism. True, the opening "Fils Des Etoiles" features a charming music box-and-percussion duo from Anthony Coleman and Cyro Baptista, but we are quickly led into abrasive Naked City cut-and-paste territory with "This Way Out." Following this is "Music For Children" itself, an accomplished chamber piece featuring percussionist Willian Winant's trio with pianist Julie Steinberg and violinist David Abel. And so it goes. The 10th Anniversary edition of MUSIC FOR CHILDREN features a revised version of the lengthy Edgar Varese-inspired sound installation "Cycles Du Nord," wherein ...

Busch Quartet - Brahms, Schumann / Rudolf Serkin
$21.19 Kicking off that phenomenally successful year, in January 2008, Sarah Brightman recorded and filmed Symphony -- Live in Vienna within the mystical walls of Stephansdome Cathedral in the heart of where classical music evolved -- Vienna, Austria. Renowned for its awe-inspiring Gothic architecture, the cathedral was the perfect setting to enter the magical world of Symphony lead by the voice of the beautiful, gothic-angel. The concert includes repertoire from her album Symphony and some of her most popular songs ('Phantom of the Opera,' 'Time to Say Goodbye'). ...

| | Nana Mouskouri 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection CD (2006)
Busch Quartet - Brahms, Schumann / Rudolf Serkin
$8.69 It is no exaggeration to state that Nana Mouskouri is a global superstar. With record sales in the multi-millions, an unflagging popularity in Europe, North America, and elsewhere, and a repertoire that spans a thousand songs in a variety of languages, it's hard to find an artist with more across-the-board (or border, as it were) success.
At 15 tracks, the scope of this 20TH CENTURY MASTERS collection is pretty small, so this best-of set ends up making a molehill out of a mountain. Even so, this is a fine, economical introduction to the singer, featuring string-heavy French ballads ("Plaisir D'Amour"), country-tinged pop ("The White Rose of Athens"), and American pop and rock ("Love Me Tender;" ...
