Creedence Clearwater Revival were part of a second wave of San Francisco groups, but unlike their geographical contemporaries, the quartet offered a disciplined music, indebted to '50s rock & roll and southern "swamp" styles. Leader, singer and songwriter John Fogerty possesses one of rock's most distinctive voices, his hoarse, urgent intonation matched by his group's mathematically precise drive. GREEN RIVER, their third album, includes two million-selling singles, the bluesy title track and "Bad Moon Rising," both of which encapsulate the Creedence metier. Remaining selections exhibit a similar economy, crammed with punchy hooklines, tight playing, and incisive lyrics, which take inspiration from traditional styles but in the process create something unique.

Rolling Stone (p.74) - 5 stars out of 5 -- "The band's most sustained achievement....['Bad Moon Rising'] wraps a blithe rockabilly swing around a soothsayer's ominous vision of oncoming apocalypse." Rolling Stone (12/11/03, p.118) - Ranked #95 in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums Of All Time" - "...A tightly wrapped package of blistering guitar, road-house-rhythm snap and John Fogerty's backwoods howl..." Rolling Stone (10/18/69, p.38) - "...[CCR] is one of the most exciting and satisfying bands around....their distinctive driving sound, when fused with Fogerty's vocals, results in something so fine....[GREEN RIVER] is a great album..."

I wish they were still playing today I love all of the CCR albums but this one stands out in my mind a little more. The raw guitars remind me a little of the Stones but the energy of CCR is what I love the most. Submitted by Chris Kaiser (Billings, MT) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The sound is muffled, not good. I have all 7 SACD albums installment on this APO label. Mostly great albums and great sounds too.
Buy "Cosmo's Factory", "Willy & the Poor Boys", "CCR 1st LP", "Pendulum" SACDs. They're great.
Avoid "Green River" and "Bayou Country" on this APO label new SACD series, which I think sounded not as great (muffled). "Mardi Gras" is 50/50, a good recording quality but not a great songs material.
See my other review on "Green River", "Bayou Country", "Cosmo's Factory", "Willy & the Poor Boys" SACDs.

The Sound not as great as "Cosmo's" and "Willy" Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray (of DCC fame, now history) have done it again. Very Good remastering job.
But, I don't think S.Hoffman and K.Gray ever remastered "Creedence 1st LP", either for CD (during DCC era or any other labels) before.
My favorable vote goes to other Creedence SACD albums: "CCR/1st LP", "Willy & The Poor Boys", "Cosmo's Factory". These three SACDs are great, soundwise. Five stars.
However, Creedence SACDs "Green River" and "Bayou Country" sound muffled and liveless. Not as good as those of remastered CDs using JVC 20-bit K2 Super Coding on Fantasy label, remastered by Shigeo Miyamoto and Tamaki Beck, released in 2000.
My recommendation for these two albums (Green River and Bayou Country) is go buy the JVC K2 super coding remastered CDs on Fantasy label which sound great and priced a lot cheaper too.
$25.00 a piece for oldies SACDs of CCR and it's only around 30 minutes of music?????? Well, Cosmo's Factory has almost 43 minutes of music on it.
A "TwoFer" deal OR "2 albums on 1 sacd" for $25.00 is more reasonable.
Thank you for reading my review. I hope this will help you decide whether to buy it or not. Submitted by a reviewer (North Texas, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful. This review is for a different format.
