Meet Me Where They Play The Blues album
$6.25 With BIRTH OF THE COOL, Miles Davis distilled a new tonal palette for jazz. As early as 1954, Miles reacted to the escalating chordal complexity of hard bop by fashioning an evocative blues based on a simple scalar pattern ("Swing Spring"). KIND OF BLUE was the ultimate fulfillment of this approach, with Miles providing his collaborators little more than outlines for melodies and simple scales for improvisation. By emphasizing the blues and the improvisor's melodic gifts, KIND OF BLUE precipitated a major stylistic development--modal jazz.
Charles Mingus had experimented with pedal points throughout the 1950s, and the melodic ...

| | Dub Syndicate Fear Of A Green Planet CD (1998)
Meet Me Where They Play The Blues songs
$14.59 Fear of a Green Planet represents a slightly bizarre episode in the ongoing Dub Syndicate project; for one thing, it's on the Shanachie label instead of On-U Sound, the band's home base. Second of all, it is rumored to be an alternate mix (by regular producer Adrian Sherwood) of an On-U release titled Mellow & Colly (mixed by Scientist), though there are contradicting reports in that regard (another version of the story has the alternate mix released under the title Fear of a Green Planet, but on the Lion & Roots label with two bonus tracks). In any case, this is one of the most satisfying Dub Syndicate albums in years. The mainly instrumental tracks walk that familiar fine line between strictly traditional roots reggae and avant-garde craziness that Sherwood and Dub Syndicate helped to define back in the 1980s, and the grooves (courtesy of drummer "Style" Scott and bassist "Flabba" Holt are darker and heavier than ...
| | Field Recordings, Vol. 9: Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky ( CD (1998) Import
Meet Me Where They Play The Blues album
$13.75 A collection of field recordings from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Kentucky made between 1924 and 1939, this disc has a sort of odds and ends feel, since nearly half the tracks are by unknown blues singers, and it's a shame that the archivists who made these recordings didn't preserve the names of the performers. There ...
| | Kenny Drew, Jr Rainbow Connection CD (1998)
Meet Me Where They Play The Blues CD music
$10.85 Kenny Drew, Sr. was so legendary a pianist that Kenny Drew, Jr. was bound to be compared to his father, however hard he fought to establish his own identity. And the fact that they played the same instrument didn't exactly discourage comparisons. But the son is very much his own man, and his individuality asserts itself on The Rainbow Connection, which was recorded when he was a month away from his 30th birthday. Drew has competent support in bassist Charnett Moffett, drummer Cody Moffett and trumpeter Terence Blanchard, and he proves that he's no clone of his father on material ranging from "Invitation" to the Thelonious Monk classics "Rhythm-A-Ning" and "Boo Boo's Birthday" ...
| | Once Through CDs (2000)
Meet Me Where They Play The Blues music CDs
$13.25 Once Through is a quartet led by saxophonist/flutist Dan Moretti; it also includes guitarist Bruce Bartlett, bassist Marty Ballou, and drummer Marty Richards. Once Through is also the name of the album, and it's an apt title: the nine tracks included here were all recorded live in the studio, and most of them are first takes. At first glance, the program looks like the usual program of standards performed by a more or less predictable combo of sax, guitar, bass, and drums. Look closer, though, and you'll notice that the first track is a smoldering arrangement of the Bill Withers soul classic "Ain't No Sunshine," which is then closely followed by a version of "Tenderly" on which Moretti plays incredibly sweet-toned ...
| | Bang & Mummbles Bang & Mummbles, Vol. 1 CD (2005)
Meet Me Where They Play The Blues songs
$7.19 INTRODUCTIONAlmost everyone has to undergo a lot of temptations and obstacles in order to become who they want to be. This story is not different for these two new upcoming Artists... MUMMBLES and BANG!!! MUMMBLES When asked why this 19 year old rapper from Far Rock-away, Queens choose the name Mummbles, his answer was, "when I was younger I always mumbled whenever my mom yelled at me and ever since then she signed my Christmas presents to Mummbles. Sh*t I guess it just stuck." This young rappers behavior came from a life of living in the streets of Far Rockaway where he grew up. There were many temptations he had to over come to keep his head straight and focused. He started rapping at the age of nine. Being surrounded by rappers and free stylists helped him begin this. Little by little he would slowly write down lyrics and rhymes which he would show to his friends in the streets the next day. This was the same age he met his best friend and now partner Bang. "Bang is a character, I enjoy working with him. He is just such a character." 2 years ago this "character" introduced him to Prestige, CEO of Arsen Entertainment, who is now helping them work their way to success. So to all you striving rappers, young and old, remember this, Mummbles says, "I made this my life, my inspiration, therefore y'all need to stay focused and do what y'all gotta do." BANG Ex-boxer, Ronald Smith, was later on named Bang in the streets. "It's just a street named given to me by my peoples." This 20 year old male from Far Rock-Away Queens grew up around rappers but it wasn't until 3 years ago that he started ...
