The tube-zither valiha is one of the pinnacles of Malagasy music, typical in its mix of Southeast Asian and African ingredients. This re-release of the '60s recordings of the instrument's best-known master is much the best of Globestyle's Malagasy issues, and a worthy substitute for the vanished Ocora valiha album (which also, incidentally, included cuts by Rakotozafy). ~ John Storm Roberts
