Personnel: Greg Howe (guitar, drums, keyboards); Kevin Vecchione (bass). Personnel: Greg Howe (guitar, keyboards, drums); Greg Howe; Kevin Vecchione (bass guitar). Audio Mixer: Greg Howe. Recording information: Greg's House. In the unlikely event that guitar-heads were not satisfied with Greg Howe's previous three guitar-based instrumental albums (1993's Introspection, 1994's Uncertain Terms, and 1995's Parallax), they may want to check out Five, which sounds a lot like its predecessors. Each track is packed to the gills with incomprehensibly fast soloing and impeccable note choice, and there's a great enthusiasm brought to the table by bassist Kevin Vecchione. But otherwise, Five is just like Howe's other home-studio-recorded '90s albums: about ten instrumental tracks led by Howe's nonstop electric guitar soloing, with a quiet acoustic piece put in the middle to serve as sort of a half-time break. Predictable or dependable, depending on your point of view. But it's always astounding to witness Greg Howe's prowess, and he usually surrounds himself with other great musicians. ~ Andy Hinds Five Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) What can you say???
First of all, it amazes me that...A) The only major gigs this guy has done since his early Shrapnel days or the late 90's is Michael Jackson, NStink(get it?), and Enrique Iglesias and B) He's not more widely know like Holdsworth or Gambale or Henderson. I love the record, but I really want to go beyond that.
For those of you who want to oversimply my upcoming comments by saying I'm playing the "race card", feel free. But let's face it; Yngvie Malmsteen can't play changes, Robben Ford doesn't do Neo-classical, neither Henderson nor Gambale are funky, and Holdsworth doesn't ROCK with attitude. All the afformentioned cats are awesome, but Greg can do all that stuff with a very high degree of proficiency.......I cannot imagine what else, other than the RACIST idiom of rock (and maybe to a lesser degree, music in general) would allow a musician loaded with talent and proficiency to labor in relative obscurity...unless he's african american. Hell, a GOOD friend of mine who in recent years played with major rocker from the 70's, had to change his last name on stage because he's jewish. I have a feeling that Greg would need more than a name change to be accepted by tens of thousands of screaming rock fans while playing burning solo for, lets say, David Lee Roth.
I have all of Greg's records and the playing is phenominal and at times, unbelieveable. I just hope that it's not going to be 50 years from now before we really appreciate his talents.

$13.45 Personnel includes: Greg Howe (guitar); Vitalij Kuprij (keyboards). The '90s were not a good decade for shredders. In 1990, it seemed as if their place within the rock & roll pantheon was secure, but grunge and alternative quickly banished them to an underground world where most cult artists exist -- a world of independent record labels, word-of-mouth buzz and specialized magazines. Nobody escaped the purge, even though all of the guitarists were quite talented. ...

$10.25 This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Glassjaw: Daryl Palumbo (vocals); Justin Beck, Todd Weinstock (guitar); Dave Allen (bass); Larry Gorman (drums). WORSHIP AND TRIBUTE was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards For Best Recording Package. This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Glassjaw changes personnel slightly and moves up to major label Warner Bros. Records from Roadrunner for its second album, Worship and Tribute. But the band's musical approach remains the same, which is to say it is a showcase for lead singer and lyricist Daryl Palumbo. Palumbo, like his greatest influence, Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction, wants to use the heavy metal format as a soapbox for his views. While the band tries to work up a head of steam, pummeling and roaring through conventional metal passages, Palumbo interrupts the flow with a series of alternate strategies. "We are the most impassioned ugly people," he declares in "Cosmopolitan Bloodloss," and he justifies that statement in terms not always so articulate in his other lyrics. Disaffected from the complexities of life, he is not so much enraged as bitterly amused, and he responds by repeating puns (e.g., "Denial is a river in Egypt," in "Trailer Park Jesus") or quoting his influences ("Life is such a ball/I run the world from City ...
