Recorded live at The Edge, Palo Alto, California in May 1999.
Michael Schenker Group: Kelly Keeling, Keith Slack (vocals); Michael Schenker (guitar); Wayne Findlay (guitar, keyboards); Barry Sparks (bass); Shane Gaalaas (drums).
The Unforgiven World Tour: Live is a double-disc set recorded over a series of 1999 concerts by Michael Schenker and his backing unit, MSG (back to the Michael Schenker Group after a stint as McAuley Schenker Group). The material dates from throughout Schenker's career, including selections by the Scorpions, UFO, McAuley Schenker Group, and his own solo work. Although some of his best-known songs aren't here, the set actually functions pretty well as an overview of his entire career. Of course, that career has had its ups and downs, and some of the songs here can sound pretty generic. But overall, fans will likely be satisfied with the performances. ~ Steve Huey Unforgiven World Tour: Live Music Michael Schenker Unforgiven World Tour: Live Songs Unforgiven World Tour: Live Music Review Purchase Unforgiven World Tour: Live CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Kiss Sonic Boom CDs (2009)
Unforgiven World Tour: Live album
$16.09 When SONIC BOOM was released, it had been over a decade since the last Kiss studio album, so expectations were understandably high. In addition, the intervening period had seen the band fire two of its founding members for the second time, only to replace them with sidemen wearing Ace Frehley and Peter Criss's iconic makeup. Luckily, the new additions, unlike some of Kiss's "un-masked years" members, have a good feel for classic Kiss. That fact, matched with Paul Stanley's assumption of production duties, makes SONIC BOOM one of the most consistent and thoroughly Kiss-sounding albums since the group's `70s heyday. That said, the New York City unit manages to branch out a bit; alongside very ROCK & ROLL OVER/LOVE GUN-esque tracks such as the Gene Simmons-sung rockers "Yes I Know (Nobody's Perfect)" and "Russian Roulette," sit ambitious pieces such as "Stand," which employs a Motown-influenced chorus melody, sophisticated arrangement, and Beach Boys-style harmonies, and "All For the Glory" ...

Unforgiven World Tour: Live CD music
$17.59 Anyone familiar with the industrial-metal band's dark sense of irony should take one look at the title of Rammstein's 2009 album LIEBE IST FUR ALLE DA ("Love Is There For Everyone") and conclude that this one is a mean monster. Combining the tightness and punch of their 1998 album SEHNSUCHT with the musicianship and elaborate textures of their later work, LIEBE IST is a grand achievement, skillfully dividing its time between razor sharp metal rockers like "B********" or the opening theme song "Rammlied" and nostalgic, cabaret pieces that conjure the spirits of Weil and Brecht at a goth club. Best of the latter is the naked and haunting closer "Roter Sand" but little touches of a sinister yesteryear are everywhere, like the fake vaudeville music in "Haifisch" or the soundtrack strings of "Wiener Blut" which are eventually overcome by a guitar crunching juggernaut. This strange mix of styles is more effective here than it has been for about a decade, and there's no threat of the album becoming ponderous either as the economical tracklist and purposeful songs wipe away the ...

| | Dream Theater Octavarium CD (2005)
Unforgiven World Tour: Live songs
$10.65 As the sole major-label progressive-metal act, Dream Theater invariably set the standard as the flagship band of the genre. With the numerically themed OCTAVARIUM (including eight tracks signifying the band's eighth release) the shred-rock quintet continues to challenge themselves creatively. Opening track "The Root Of All Evil" picks up the thread that began with "The Glass Prison" (SIX DEGREES OF INNER TURBULENCE) and carried forward to "This Dying Soul" (TRAIN OF THOUGHT). Drummer Mike Portnoy's lyrics for these songs read like a set of deeply personal journal entries documenting his painful recovery experience, further disclosed by a footnote nod to Alcoholics Anonymous co-founder Bill Wilson. ...

| | Steppenwolf 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection CD (2003)
Unforgiven World Tour: Live music CDs
$9.69 Digitally remastered by Erick Labson (MCA Music Media Studios, North Hollywood, California).
This is part of MCA's 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection series.
The upteen millionth collection by Steppenwolf -- er, slight exaggeration but there are way too many -- is easily one of the best both in terms of sound and selection. While the ready made expectations are met with "The Pusher," "Born to Be Wild," "Magic Carpet Ride," and "Sookie Sookie," there are a few surprises as well, including "Screaming Night Hog," "It's Never Too Late," "Tenderness," and "The Night Time's for You." If only there would have been room for "Monster," "Move Over," and "Power Play." Alas. But as these things go, it's pretty great. Now if they'd only reissue Early Steppenwolf on CD we'd be all set. ~ Thom Jurek
Like any record company worth their salt, MCA knows a good gimmick when they see it, and when the millennium came around -- well, the 20th Century Masters -- The Millennium Collection wasn't too far behind. Supposedly, the millennium is a momentous occasion, but it's hard to feel that way when it's used as another excuse to turn out a budget-line series. But apart from the presumptuous title, 20th Century Masters -- The Millennium Collection turns out to be a very good budget-line ...
