Punk Dwellings: New York's Finest Vol. 1 music CDs
$15.44 Motley Crue may have been the glam metal kings of the '80s. But, for a while at least, Twisted Sister gave them heated competition. While the Crue and their L.A. cohorts (Ratt, Dokken, etc.) were dead-serious in their approach, Twisted Sister's music and videos always contained an element of humor-something most bands of the era sorely lacked. 1984's STAY HUNGRY was Twisted Sister's double-platinum breakthrough, its popularity spurred by the imaginative (and hilarious) videos for the hits "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock."
The Long Island-based Twisted Sister built a solid following, gigging constantly since the early '70s and riding on the strength of such albums as UNDER THE BLADE and YOU CAN'T STOP ROCK N' ROLL. All of which set the band up for STAY HUNGRY. Singer Dee Snider proved to quite ...
| | Tortoise Beacons Of Ancestorship CD (2009)
Punk Dwellings: New York's Finest Vol. 1 songs
$12.78 Returning after a five-year gap (which, granted, included a box set and a collaborative record with Bonnie "Prince" Billy), Tortoise confronted a pair of age-old musical questions: does anyone really care about an experimental rock group after 15 years, and does said group actually have anything to say after that length of time? BEACONS OF ANCESTORSHIP neatly squashes all those questions and assumptions, revealing a band that is just as fascinated with sound--and just as intrigued by its myriad possibilities--as they were when they debuted in 1993. The time signatures are constantly shifting, the lights of vitality and inventiveness they displayed twelve years earlier are completely undimmed, and the reference points for their music are constantly expanding. The spaghetti Western ...

Punk Dwellings: New York's Finest Vol. 1 CD music
$6.15 When Jon Anderson rejoined Yes after DRAMA, he was inserting himself into an unusual situation. Keyboardist Geoff Downes and longtime guitarist Steve Howe had left to form Asia with prog rock vets John Wetton (King Crimson, Roxy Music etc.) and Carl Palmer (ELP). Chris Squire and Alan White brought original Yes keysman Tony Kaye back and recruited vibrant young Australian guitarist/vocalist/composer Trevor Rabin. The quartet ...

| | Shangri-Las Myrmidons Of Melodrama CD (1998) (Import) United Kingdom
Punk Dwellings: New York's Finest Vol. 1 songs
$17.39 Few back catalogs have been treated with such little respect as that of the wonderful SHANGRI-LAS. Despite the quality of their material - which remains highly collectable - they've suffered a history of badly compiled albums with shoddy packaging and more to the point appalling sound reproduction. RPM have produced a vastly improved sound quality collection before but are now able to go even one better by introducing the true stereo versions of their key recordings. In addition RPM are adding both sides of the hideously rare debut single from the group in turn making its debut on CD. The packaging is in digipack format as part of RPMs Special edition series containing a dynamic new front cover, new photographs and liner notes.
The Shangri-Las were the quintessential girl group and MYRMIDONS OF MELODRAMA is the quintessential Shangri-Las collection. This 33-track set contains all of the trio's key songs-- including "Out in the Streets," "Train from Kansas City," Give Him a Great Big Kiss," and, of course, that ode to bad boys and the women who love them, "Leader of the Pack"--as well as classic radio spots and even dating tips from lead singer Mary Weiss. While the disc is certainly a showcase for Weiss's gorgeous, ...

$16.99 "Ants Marching" does appear on the concert disc, which showcases Matthews and company in the comfort zone of the stage, where the charismatic singer/guitarist and his seemingly telepathic ensemble cut loose (particularly on the frenetic closer, "Two Step"). Although DMB diehards may find this collection superfluous, it serves as an excellent ...
