PATHWAYS was the only volume of a Sun Ra trilogy Impulse Records planned to release in 1975. The other two, CYMBALS and CRYSTAL SPEARS, remained unreleased until their appearance in 2000 as THE GREAT LOST SUN RA ALBUMS. Recorded in 1973, this is the Arkestra at their most communally inventive and daring. The four selections (the original release had just three) are all cued improvisations. The set is enhanced with the addition of a rare session, previously thought to be lost, and never before released in any manner. Titled, FRIENDLY LOVE, it also is divided into four parts in which the ten-piece ensemble follows the directions of their leader, giving us yet another glimpse into the musical mind of Sun Ra.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
Recorded in 1973.
