| | Louis Jordan I Believe In Music CD Louis Jordan Discography of CDs
Recorded in a single Paris session on November 6, 1973, for the French label Barclay Disques, I BELIEVE IN MUSIC finds jazz vocalist Louis Jordan just barely a year prior to his death at the age of 67. In poor but not frail health, Jordan sounds ... Full Descriptionsomewhat subdued but hardly sickly. What's interesting about this date is that Jordan sings comparatively little, preferring to focus his energy on his under-appreciated alto saxophone skills. A blues honker in the Jimmy Forrest/King Curtis tradition, Jordan blows the hell out of his axe, trading lines with tenor Irv Cox while a hot piano-guitar-bass-drums rhythm section pounds behind them. Jordan revisits a few of his own classics, like "Saturday Night Fish Fry" and "Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby," but mostly he prefers to explore other standards like Duke Ellington's "Take the A Train." The closing "Something For Louis" is a tender farewell to the recently deceased Mr. Armstrong, an old friend and cohort of Jordan's.
Recorded at Barclay Studio, Paris, France on November 6, 1973. Includes liner notes by Fred Bouchard.
Personnel: Louis Jordan (vocals, alto saxophone); Louis Myers (guitar); Irv Cox (tenor saxophone); Duke Burrell (piano); Dave Meyers, John Duke (bass); Archie Taylor, Fred Below (drums).
Reissue producer: Jerry Gordon.

I Believe In Music album
$9.59 A SPACE IN TIME was Ten Years After's biggest commercial success. The reasons are pretty obvious; Alvin Lee's songwriting had improved markedly and there was far more stylistic variety than on their previous albums.
The big hit here was "I'd Love to Change the World," with its catchy acoustic guitar hook and the immortal opening line, "Everywhere is freaks and hairies." Other highpoints include: "Baby Won't You Let Me Rock 'n' Roll You," the band's first stab at Stones-style raunch (complete with ...

| | Mississippi John Hurt Rediscovered CD (1998)
I Believe In Music songs
$15.05 Although usually classified as a blues musician, Mississippi John Hurt shares little musical common ground with the Mississippi Delta bluesmen that were his contemporaries. Hurt's gentle approach to guitar (which he finger-picks expertly), his vocals, and his highly melodic repertoire fall more easily into the folk category. Indeed, Hurt's music inspired a generation of '60s folkies. REDISCOVERED collects many of the recordings that folk musicians value so dearly, anthologizing the four LPs Hurt made for Vanguard Records in the '60s.
Although well on in years when he made these recordings, Hurt plays and sings magnificently-no mean feat considering the challenges presented by his elaborate guitar style. Many of Hurt's signature tunes are here: "Make Me a Pallet on Your Floor," "Stagolee," and "Candy Man" all appear, although the omission of a few classics ("Louis Collins" and "Casey Jones," to name two) prevents REDISCOVERED from ...

$29.99 Slick debut from Auckland pop group Pluto who have been singled out by media and musicians as potential rockstars. Pluto began in 1994 and have since been through a change in line up and name. Also, a hectic tour of Germany and brief stint of writing in London. Since returning to the shores of New Zealand they have toured with Neil Finn, released their debut album and have been penciled in for a tour with Bic Runga later in the year. As an album red-light syndrome is an idyllic pop triumph that carries a British indie flavor. Each song holds it weight with tight melodies and a depth sure to swell with ...
