Recorded between 1966 & 1969. Includes liner notes by Robyn Flans.
Digitally remastered by Dan Hersch (DigiPrep, Hollywood, California).
Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 was originally released in 1969, not in time to have BJ Thomas' first number one single, "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head," be included on the collection. Other than that significant omission, the compilation is an excellent overview of Thomas' first few years of hit-making, made even better on Varese Sarabande's 2000 reissue, which includes the three charting singles that didn't make the original release -- "Tomorrow Never Comes," "It's Only Love," and "Pass the Apple Eve." If you can overlook the absence of "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head," this is a really nice compilation of his '60s work, but many casual fans might want to seek out Rhinos' The Very Best of BJ Thomas, which covers all of his Scepter recordings up until 1972, not just the '60s cuts. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
