The Soundtrack for director Ronald F. Maxwell's Civil War film GODS AND GENERALS consists of a score by John Frizell and Randy Edelman, book-ended by original songs from ex-October Project vocalist Mary Fahl and folk/rock icon Bob Dylan. The former track, "Going Home" is a haunting, Celtic-influenced piece that sounds similar to the best work of June Tabor and Maddy Prior. Dylan's contribution is a typically insightful and poignant look at a difficult topic, and lends the proceedings a quiet grandeur. Musically, "'Cross The Green Mountain" recalls his early-'70s work with Leon Russell. Frizell and Edelman's score is appropriately melancholy and sweeping, perfectly reflecting the epic proportions and painful subject matter of the film. Based on Gregory Maguire's novel of the same name, the Broadway musical WICKED creates a history for the two witches from L. Frank Baum's OZ books. Through composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz's emotive songs, the show reveals the unlikely friendship between Elphaba (Idina Menzel), who eventually becomes the Wicked Witch, and Glinda (Kristin Chenoweth), the Good Witch.
The dramatic, horn-laden "No One Mourns the Wicked" starts the story in striking fashion, with the death of the ruby-slipper-wearing Wicked Witch. As Glinda appears, Elphaba's backstory begins, leading to jaunty numbers like "Popular" and "Defying Gravity," as well as ballads such as "I'm Not That Girl" and "For Good," with Menzel and Chenoweth showing off their substantial vocal chops. Adding to the boisterous energy is musical theater veteran Joel Grey, who brings a bit of Broadway's past to his role as the Wizard.

Bill Whelan worked for twenty years as a composer, producer, and arranger (his credits include work for Kate Bush, Hothouse Flowers, Van Morrison, and U2, among others). He achieved international recognition for RIVERDANCE in 1997.
Here Whelan incorporated a variety of ethnic musical traditions as well as modern and choral music, and the hypnotic, rhythmic hard-shoe Irish dancing for which RIVERDANCE is famous. This release, a document of the show's revival in 2000, features six new songs and adds African traditional music to the mix.
