$15.44 Motley Crue may have been the glam metal kings of the '80s. But, for a while at least, Twisted Sister gave them heated competition. While the Crue and their L.A. cohorts (Ratt, Dokken, etc.) were dead-serious in their approach, Twisted Sister's music and videos always contained an element of humor-something most bands of the era sorely lacked. 1984's STAY HUNGRY was Twisted Sister's double-platinum breakthrough, its popularity spurred by the imaginative (and hilarious) videos for the hits "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock."
The Long Island-based Twisted Sister built a solid following, gigging constantly since the early '70s and riding on the strength of such albums as UNDER THE BLADE and YOU CAN'T STOP ROCK N' ROLL. All of which set the band up for STAY HUNGRY. Singer Dee Snider proved to quite an intimidating figure, bedecked in garish make-up and transvestite gear, and his outspoken personality carried Twisted Sister's songs and stage-show. STAY HUNGRY proved to be the band's finest hour, containing such tracks as "Burn In Hell," "The Price," "S.M.F.," "Horror-Teria," ...
| | Tortoise Beacons Of Ancestorship CD (2009)
Funland Band songs
$12.78 Returning after a five-year gap (which, granted, included a box set and a collaborative record with Bonnie "Prince" Billy), Tortoise confronted a pair of age-old musical questions: does anyone really care about an experimental rock group after 15 years, and does said group actually have anything to say after that length of time? BEACONS OF ANCESTORSHIP neatly squashes all those questions and assumptions, revealing a band that is just as fascinated with sound--and just as intrigued by its myriad possibilities--as they were when they debuted in 1993. The time signatures are constantly shifting, the lights of vitality and inventiveness they displayed twelve years earlier are completely undimmed, and the reference points for their music are constantly expanding. The spaghetti Western impressionism of "The Fall of Seven Diamonds Plus One" would be perfect for their excellent TNT LP, and the group get positively off-the-wall at the end, with a pair of songs ("Monument Six One Thousand" and "Charteroak Foundation") that pit guitar lines over drums-and-bass ...

Funland Band CD music
$6.15 When Jon Anderson rejoined Yes after DRAMA, he was inserting himself into an unusual situation. Keyboardist Geoff Downes and longtime guitarist Steve Howe had left to form Asia with prog rock vets John Wetton (King Crimson, Roxy Music etc.) and Carl Palmer (ELP). Chris Squire and Alan White brought original Yes keysman Tony Kaye back and recruited vibrant young Australian guitarist/vocalist/composer Trevor Rabin. The quartet had already begun writing and recording, but Anderson was able to insert himself into the proceedings with such ease that the new combination sounds completely natural on 90125.
Mostly, the band was concerned with trimming the musical fat to keep pace with the onslaught of the 1980s. Thus, tracks like "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and "City of Love" are full of samples, splices and almost funky beats and riffs. The unusual time changes and complex riffs of tunes like "Changes" and "Cinema" leave little doubt that this is still a Yes album, but the band succeeds in giving their sound a contemporary overhaul on 90125.
Includes 6 bonus tracks.

| | James Taylor Best Live CD (1994)
Funland Band music CDs
$10.15 BEST LIVE finally catches James Taylor in a performance of most of his masterpieces from the GREATEST HITS album. Expertly recorded on a short tour with his regular performing band, this album finds Taylor in stellar form as he glides through tried-and-true audience favorites like "Sweet Baby James" and "Your Smiling Face." Likewise, signature tunes such as "Fire And Rain," "How Sweet It Is" and "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight" are included because, well, it's a James Taylor show! Under the direction of pianist/producer Don Grolnick, the band, which includes studio veterans Mike Landau (guitar), Jimmy Johnson (bass) and Carlos Vega (drums), masterfully performs the more recent songs "Handy Man" and the beautiful "Shed A Little Light" along with the older hits.
