| | Bauhaus 1979-1983, Vol. 1 CD Bauhaus Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
A textbook example of how to do a comprehensive career summary, the double-disc 1979-1983 neatly encapsulates the best bits of Bauhaus' four-year career while purposely avoiding the filler that mucks up even the band's best albums. Starting with Bauhaus' first single, 1979's grinding, obsessive "Double Dare," and proceeding roughly chronologically, the set collects the A-sides of all of the group's singles with a good cross-section of album tracks, showing off all of Bauhaus' strengths: hypnotic drones (the nine-minute live version of "Bela Lugosi's Dead"), glammy rock (Bowie, Eno, and T. Rex covers plus the hard-charging "Lagartija Nick," the group's heaviest rocker), atmospheric pop ("Hollow Hills" and the glorious near-hit single "She's in Parties"), and, most tellingly, the humor that a lot of the band's detractors either missed or refused to recognize as such. Regardless, it's hard not to giggle at obvious jokes like "Of Lilies and Remains" and "Terror Couple Kill Colonel." Even better, the original vinyl pressing was released in a gorgeous jacket featuring full-size head shots of the four members, photos of all their albums and singles, and a full discography, including post-Bauhaus solo and group projects. ~ Stewart Mason
If all single-artist compilations were like this, the world would be a much better place -- while lacking liner notes, or even specific references as to what songs come from where, 1979-1983: Vol. 1, drawing mostly from In the Flat Field and Mask, does a frankly smashing job at capturing the many early high points of Bauhaus' recording career. No real obscurities appear -- singles tracks like "Dark Entries" and "Terror Couple Kill Colonel" had been available on EP and would soon be reissued with the Field CD -- while the version of "Bela Lugosi's Dead" in fact is the live take from the Press the Eject album. As an overview, though, it's just flat-out great, covering many of the band's different facets, from aggressive thrash ("Double Dare," "In the Flat Field," "Hair of the Dog") to mysterious, arty shades ("A God in an Alcove," "Spy in the Cab," "Mask") and more. While one could argue over including other worthwhile tracks -- the nutty humor of "Of Lillies and Remains" would have demonstrated the band's reach even more -- 1979-1983: Vol. 1 remains as near perfect a starting place for a neophyte listener as any. ~ Ned Raggett

1979-1983, Vol. 1 songs
$11.95 For her sixth CD, Pallatto uses a variety of different bands; pianist Lou Gregory's trio, the legendary Eldee Young (bass) and Redd Holt (drums), guitarist David Onderdonk, husband/pianist Bradley Parker-Sparrow, and percussionist Alejo Poveda are among the combos. Her voice remains clear, yet dusky as smoke, with cabaret notions and a slight vibrato at the end of phrases -- distinctly similar to Sheila Jordan in style, with inflection and Native American-flavored ...

| | Kort Mccumber Somewhere To Go CD (2000)
1979-1983, Vol. 1 album
$9.35 "Somewhere To Go" is my first recording. The lyrics and music exemplify where I was at that time in my life. I just turned 22 years old, and I realized that music was everything to me. I recorded this record in the fall of '99 at Mirror Image Studios in Gainesville, FL, with the help of producer Ronnie Cates. I was lucky enough to have some amazing musicians on this record. Tom Hurst, Jeff Coffey, Jack Sizemore, Dave Lasman, Matt Collins, Matt Creswell, Jennifer Wiertzema, my mom and my sister helped make this record really special. After recording this record, my sister Beth started to perform live with me, logging many miles throughout the Southeast, playing in bars, coffee shops, listening rooms and festivals. In August of 2000, I traveled to Lyons, CO to attend the Rocky Mountain Song School and Folks Festival. Experiencing this gathering of singers, songwriters and musicians changed my life by inspiring me to become more serious about my music, leading me to Nashville, TN...Music City! I convinced my sister to move there with me, and while she received her music business degree at Belmont University, I immersed myself in the music culture the city had to offer, writing and performing as much as I could. While living in Nashville, Beth and I ...

1979-1983, Vol. 1 music CDs
$15.29 With 70+ releases, 40+ remixes, 75+ compilation appearances and still counting in under four years, prolific would be an understatement to one of today's youngest and most invigorating producers in Dance music today - Sweden's John Dahlbäck. It's only natural when one of '90s Techno's most copious musicians and Kompakt co-owner Wolfgang Voigt struck a personal affinity to John Dahlbäck when he reached out to Kompakt under his new techno alias, Hug. Now with four singles under his belt for the imprint as Hug, Dahlbäck's releases have helped build the identity (and successes) of offshoot label K2, so it's fitting that he be the first musician to deliver the first full-length commemorating an artist from the imprint. Heroes is not a collection of these 12" singles (though the album features two favorites, "Radio" and "Birds," previously released on K2) but a tremendously adherent album that reflects the full-sounding nature of his Hug project in a heterogeneous fashion - analog meets digital in the most fundamental of ways. Kompakt. 2007.
