(1 Customer Review)
Although Archie Fisher is probably the most respected Scottish singer/songwriter of his generation, his recorded output is surprisingly limited; 1995's Sunsets I've Galloped Into is only his fourth studio album in nearly three decades. In terms of Fisher's vocals, songwriting, and choice of outside material, Sunsets I've Galloped Into is typically excellent. Fisher's original songs are as strong as ever, but most of the album consists of songs written by friends and associates. This gives the album a warmly communal feel, even though Fisher, his producer Garnet Rogers, and bassist David Woodhead handle all of the instrumental chores themselves. The production is low-key and intimate, with only a couple of poor choices in arrangement, most notably the irritating guitar synthesizer that detracts from the mournful "Bill Hosie," an elegy for a Scottish aviator who died on the initial flight of a vintage aircraft he'd reconstructed. Although Sunsets I've Galloped Into is a fine album, the relative lack of original material makes it feel a bit like a stopgap project. ~ Stewart Mason
Personnel: Archie Fisher (acoustic guitar); Garnet Rogers (electric guitar); Dave Woodhead (bass guitar).

Sunsets I've Galloped Into... album
$9.65 In late 1999, the Dutch label KonKurrent invited Minneapolis band Low into an in-house studio to record one of the label's near-legendary In the Fishtank sessions; bands have two days to record between 20-30 minutes of all new material of their choosing. Also touring at the time were Low's pals, the Australian instrumental dynamos the Dirty Three. Low invited them in, and in the same collaborative spirit as another In the Fishtank session involving Tortoise and the Ex, this half-hour session is the document. What is truly amazing about this hookup is how natural these two bands sound playing with one another. Low has been striking out lately, playing different ...

Sunsets I've Galloped Into... music CDs
$14.15 On A Few Miles from Memphis, recorded by pianist Harold Mabern in 1968, he's joined by tenors George Coleman and Buddy Terry, bassist Bill Lee, and drummer Walter Perkins for a bluesy, rhythm-filled set featuring familiar fare like "A Treat for Bea" and fun originals like "Walkin' Back." There's also the odd inclusion of "There's a Kind of Hush," a pop song that comes out sounding like an old standard here. ~ Ronnie D. Lankford Jr.
When record labels like Prestige release two albums on one CD, it's a great bargain for music fans. A Few Miles from Memphis combines the album of the same name and Rakin' and Scrapin', both recorded by pianist Harold Mabern in 1968. On the first set ...

Sunsets I've Galloped Into... songs
$19.99 Raven presents the very best of Solomon Burke's recordings for MGM in the 1970s, many on CD for the first time. A pioneering soul singer, Burke's powerful voice and fervent emotionality were much-admired through the 1960s. At MGM, with arranger Gene Page, Solomon deftly crafted a commercial and contemporary sound - both urban pop ballads and rhythmic hymns to black empowerment, all framed around his impassioned voice. Using fractured, multi-layered background vocals (a la Marvin Gaye), and deep vocals not unlike Barry White, ...

He then developed a music career and continued to pursue it on a part-time basis, playing at thousands of weddings and private parties. Upon graduation from USC (majoring in history with a minor in music,) he began a management career in banking, which lasted almost twenty-five years. Steve has been honored many times in banking, yet music has remained his passion. He became known as "The Banker With The Beat." At every event where he performed, Steve's music and styling received tremendous attention. Enthusiastic fans began to request recorded samples of his music. Encouraged by his family and friends, and with overwhelming response, Bankbeat Productions, Inc. was born in July of 1992 with the recording of his first album, "Notes of Romance." The music sold rapidly and was soon picked up by national distributing companies for sale in gift shops, Hallmark stores, boutiques, book shops and privately-owned businesses. Thirteen years and many recordings later, Bankbeat Productions, Inc. has sold over 1.6 million albums! The company currently offers thirty-one musical collections. In addition, Steve recently released his first DVD, "All Things Bright and Beautiful," which features captivating scenes of nature with selected songs from his inspirational albums. Steve categorizes his music as "great-sounding, heart warming, familiar tunes." He attributes his musical success to his attentiveness toward people and what they want to hear. His father had always told him to play from the heart, and both his mom and his dad encouraged him to share God's gift of music with others. Indeed, it is his music's uplifting appeal and familiarity that has earned Steve a loyal following from people of all walks of faith. With the success of three more romantic albums, "Coming Home", "Timeless Love", and "Gift of Love", Steve began to concentrate on recording the music of his childhood...inspirational music.
