4 stars Intense progressive speed metal
This band is an oddity. The musicanship is excellent and is paired with the most eerie falsetto voice I've ever heard. I love it, but it can be hard for some to take. This is not a nock off band. They are painfully original- awesome!

5 stars Thrash Indulgence
Nasty Savage was sadly neglected by the majority of the thrash metal hoards back in the 80's, which was a damn shame, considering that they produced some of the most innovative, technical and jaw-dropping metal ever, period. In fact, Nasty Savage is the only band who appeared on the famous World War III festival who most forget to recall (the others being Celtic Frost, Possessed, Voivod and Destruction). Says it all, right there. 'Indulgence' is a forgotten gem; full of anvil-heavy yet incredibly catchy riffs, swirling (re; tasty) solos and rumbling bass lines which were years ahead of anything being played at the time (Voivod, Cynic and Watchtower excluded). Not to mention the combo snarling/high-pitched vocals from frontman Nasty Ronnie - a truly unique voice. Check out album 'Inferno' - a metal masterpiece if ever there was one. The 'Abstract Reality' Ep, released in 1988 dumbfounded many with its musical technicality, a notch further than the complicated listen that was 'Indulgence'. Quantity over quality, these 4-songs stood head and shoulders above the saturated thrash scene at the time, and listening to it now it sounds as fresh and astounding as ever. Essential.

4 stars Best of Nasty Savage
This is obviously 2 of the best works by the band - Nasty Savage!!! Their 1st album was just too slow and the vocals were on the point of being annoying. Though, all that changes here!! Nasty Ronnie delivers his best (though on stage he still acts like a moron) with a thicker voice and hitting high notes every now and then. The music is faster than before and really sounds like Thrash!!!! So, if you are looking for another Thrash album for your collection, or the thrashiest by Nasty Savage...then this is it!! Though, i highly recommend the Mini Album 'Abstract Reality' as the best of these two.

Never ones to think twice about flirting with supernatural evil forces, San Francisco's Possessed scheduled their second album, Beyond the Gates, to be released on Halloween, 1986! Maybe they should have been a little more wary, as the recording that should have built upon the solid foundation laid down by the previous year's genre-forming debut Seven Churches (still regarded as one of death metal's inaugural cornerstones), wound up coming as a disappointment to most critic and fans alike. Verily, in most every observer's eyes, Beyond the Gates represented an almost indefensible step backwards; transforming a sound previously distinguished for its inexorable power into a ragged, decidedly weaker-kneed replacement. Perhaps the record's feeble production was to blame, although it's hard to lay the blame entirely on experienced producer Carl Canedy in light of his previous triumphs with Anthrax and Overkill. More likely, it was a combination of difficulties: poor funding, rushed recording conditions, questions over musical direction, and simple lack of preparedness (all common problems for starving, under-pressure-to-deliver ...

Often cited as the first true death metal record ever released (Florida's Death had been around just as long but would only make their vinyl debut a few years later), Possessed's Seven Churches took thrash metal's intensity to new levels of brutality. With song titles like "Burning in Hell," "Satan's Curse," and "The Exorcist" (featuring the famous movie's eerie title theme for an intro), the band definitely displayed a strong Slayer influence; but it was Possessed growler Jeff Becerra who first introduced the barely decipherable grunting vocal style which would epitomize the death metal genre. Among the highlights, "Pentagram," "Twisted Minds," and "Fallen Angel" have best stood the test of time, offering glimpses of the trends to follow with their surprisingly ...

40 Below Summer Invitation To The Dance CD  (2001)

CD $9.69  5 stars Top 500 Audio Samples
40 Below Summer looked to impress with their 2001 major-label debut, Invitation to the Dance, and largely succeed by offering up an eclectic batch of songs that are dripping with creativity. Invitation to the Dance at first glance may seem to be just another hard rock album, but along with further observation it is apparent that 40 Below Summer is striving to spice up what modern hard rock became in the 21st century. By combining hardcore breakdowns with melodic singing, a dash of aggressive hip-hop, and the worldly aspects of jazz, 40 Below Summer created a recipe that will satisfy the listener as well as sate one's soul. Max Illedge's unique vocal mannerisms help push 40 Below Summer forward, and his natural vocal ability make songs such as "Step into the Sideshow" and "Falling Down" stand out as must-hear tunes. Throughout the album there is a reoccuring sense of déjà vu, as was common with most releases in 2001, but 40 Below Summer overcome their minor similarities to truly be seen as an original band amidst the cluster of fledgling acts struggling to break through. 40 Below Summer's ability to keep the listener guessing and the album's repetitive ...

Since the release of 1996's stellar From the Archives, Vol. 1, it's understandable to say that Tommy Bolin Archives subsequently went a bit overboard (it seemed like they released every single piece of tape they could get their hands on -- regardless of the sound quality). But when Tommy's younger brother, John Bolin, discovered a box full of forgotten tapes, the finest archival release since Archives, Vol. 1 was in place -- 2006's Whips and Roses. Featuring both strong alternate takes of Teaser classics and several previously unheard instrumental jams, Whips and Roses is unquestionably the best-sounding Bolin CD ever released (the project's producer, Greg Hampton, should certainly be commended). New versions of ...
