Riot bandleader/guitarist Mark Reale's frequent lineup shifts finally caught up with him on 1982's Restless Breed. Longtime vocalist Guy Speranza's exit after the group's seminal release, Fire Down Under, wasn't just another member change. Replacement Rhett Forrester demonstrates nice range and intensity on Restless Breed, but Speranza's performance and writing abilities are sorely missed. While Riot always suffered from a faceless quality, with Speranza, they managed to somehow stay ahead of their time. The New York outfit was one of the first American metal acts to adopt a melodic, speedy approach that approximated thrash and the about-to-crest New Wave of British Heavy Metal many years before each would emerge from the underground. Times finally caught up with Reale and company on Restless Breed. Forrester isn't exactly mimicking David Coverdale on "When We Were Young," and the rest of the guys never exactly rip off Thin Lizzy, Bad Company, Whitesnake, or a list of younger melodic metal bands throughout Restless Breed, but without Speranza, Riot misses their edge and their individuality. ~ Vincent Jeffries

WOW! What memories! This takes me back! I have had this cd for a while! It was very hard to find for a while. I still have the cassette too. Once in a while I break it out and just crank it up!!! This my favorite RIOT album. All songs rock. Vocals are just amazing! Submitted by n.a.b. (Longmont, Co) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
I almost forgot how good this was.... I have this on vinyl and it was in my huge collection of vinyl that I haven't played for years. I found a used RIOT CD (Through The Storm"at Wherehouse Music and I "remembered" my vinyl RIOT. I got this one out, listened to the first 2 songs, fired up the CD recorder and burned it to CD so I can take it on the road and to work. RIOT made awesome music...sorry I had forgotten about it. I will be playing this LOUD and often..again! By the way I am burning Born In America and Restless Breed as well.
There is gonna be a RIOT in Virginia! Submitted by baseball34 (Virginia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
All about Rhett & Mark Rhett's singing and Mark's guitar playing, what a match!!! Too bad they only put out two studio albums. These songs are just straight ahead, the way it SHOULD be. Nothing fancy. Submitted by Schenker Fan (USA Baby) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
RHETT FORRESTER LIVES ON!! By far the top release by the boys of Riot. You take an amazing powerhouse band like Riot, add in a new vocalist like the late Rhett Forrester, and you got the best rock can offer. I recall having this album in it's day, and not being able to get these songs out of my head. This album still has that hold on me today; with one listen I am transported back to high school days, and the music still grabs me. A simply amazing release, as is anything with Rhett singing on it. It was a great and tragic loss the day Rhett Forrester was murdered back in the early 90's, but you can own a piece of his history with this blazing release. There is a version of this CD that I picked up a few years back, released on High Vaultage records, that includes as bonus tracks the entire "Riot Live" EP, which has an additional five tracks with Rhett. Check out Rhett on "Swords & Tequila"...WOW! Submitted by jeff (Virginia beach, Virginia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Restless Breed album
$9.69 If a line could be drawn that connected '70s hard rock superstars like Boston and Thin Lizzy with '80s pop-metal gods Def Leppard, it would almost certainly pass through Riot. The group's surprising debut was originally issued in Japan only, which could explain why this 1977 release isn't more widely admired ...

Restless Breed songs
$9.89 This is the Germany import edition of FLY TO THE RAINBOW by hard rockers the Scorpions, featuring lead guitarist Uli Jon Roth.
On their second effort, Fly to the Rainbow, the Scorpions begin to establish their trademark hard-rock sound while exorcising the last of their remaining psychedelic hippie tendencies. In fact, the band bursts out of the gate in surprisingly straightforward fashion with the hard rocking ...
| | Thin Lizzy Black Rose CD (1979)
Restless Breed album
$9.69 Hard rock quartet formed by Philip Lynott out of Dublin, Ireland. Thin Lizzy had numerous charting albums throughout the 70's & 80's. Black Rose was originally released in 1980. Featured guitarists are Gary Moore & Scott Gorham. 8 tracks. 2001 reissue.
Additional personnel includes: Bluesy Hughie (harp); Jimmy Bain (bass).
Recorded at Pathe Marconi Studios, Paris, France and Good Earth Studios, London, England.
Producers include: Tony Visconti, Thin Lizzy, Phil Lynott.
Black Rose: A Rock Legend would prove to be Thin Lizzy's last true classic album (and last produced by Tony Visconti). Guitarist Brian Robertson was replaced by Gary Moore prior to the album's recording. Moore had already been a member of the band in the early '70s and served as a tour fill-in for Robertson ...
| | Thin Lizzy Thunder And Lightning CD (1983)
Restless Breed CD music
$9.69 Digitally remastered by Eddie Shreyer & Brian Slagel (Future Disc).
Thin Lizzy's final studio release, Thunder and Lightning, was their most consistent album since 1979's Black Rose. Guitarist John Sykes replaced Snowy White, and the new blood must have inspired Lynott and company to write some of their best compositions in years. Although a pop-metal production hinders the tracks, there's more of a harder edge present than on their last release, Renegade. While the title track served as the ensuing tour's raging opener, half-baked lyrics detailing a fistfight and an unwarranted synth-solo weakens what should have been a straight-ahead rocker. But such heavies as "This Is the One" and "Cold Sweat" suit the band much better. Lizzy takes a stab at dance-rock with "The Holy War," while laying back with the tranquil "The Sun Goes Down" and the album's underrated highlight, the melodic ...
| | Best Of Gregory Isaacs, Vol. 1 CD (1978)
Restless Breed music CDs
$9.69 Gregory Isaacs had been haunting the Kingston studios since 1968, but it wasn't until 1973 that the singer notched up a hit, and another year before he finally topped the chart. That first number one, "Love Is Overdue," was produced by Alvin Ranglin, one of a slew of sensational songs Isaacs cut for the former Maytone in the mid-'70s. Like many singers turned producers, Ranglin had a fabulous ear for melody, and he made it the centerpiece of all his productions. Even during this period, when adamant rhythms were de rigueur, Ranglin softened their effect by lacing arrangements with warm, cheery brass alongside glowing organ and sparkling piano, courtesy of Winston Wright and Gladstone "Gladdy" Anderson, respectively. Recorded at Channel One studio, these types of glorious riddims were the backbone of The Best of Gregory Isaacs, the singer's third album. Contrary to its suggestive title, this was not a compilation of hits at all, at least not yet. A couple of numbers had already seen success as singles, including "Look Before You Leap" and "My Number One," but the rest of the record was all new. Many of these songs, however, would swiftly become Isaacs' standards, including the seductive "Special Guest," the aching "Tear Drops" (with exquisite backing from the Tamlins, who offered up harmonies across the set), the cultural classic "No Speech," and his emotive cover of Hortense Ellis' "Willow Tree." Equally worthy of note are a soulful cover of the Ellis siblings' "Breaking Up" and the incredibly haunting "Cool You." Then again, every song on this set is a standout. So, when is a best-of set without a host of hits still a best-of set? The answer is simple: when -- like this best-of -- it showcases the artist at his very best. ~ Jo-Ann Greene
Jamaican producers seemed determined to tempt fate by titling albums in particularly misleading fashion. The most infamous, of course, was the Wailers' 1971 debut album, which like this Gregory Isaacs set was also brashly entitled Best Of. Neither quite lived up to its claims, nor were they even compilations -- both featured mostly new material with a few recent singles thrown in for good measure. In Isaacs' case, there were a mere two hits to be found within -- "Look Before You Leap" and the mighty "My Number One" -- and everything else was new. But then everything about this set was unexpected, including the productions. Producer Alvin Ranglin was renowned for his gentle, rural-flavored riddims, but with the Revolutionaries in tow, Ranglin went into Channel One Studio and had them lay down one of his toughest-sounding sets. Of course, by the band's own standard it's pretty ...
