Although Animal Magnetism contains such classic songs as "The Zoo" and "Make It Real," the album is somewhat disappointing when compared to its predecessor, Lovedrive. The well-written songs on this album end up saving it from total disaster, and it's obvious the band wasn't sure what to exactly put on this record -- many of the songs sound like the work of some other rock group and simply don't blend together as they should. Singer Klaus Meine, known for his excellent vocal performances, sounds bored and just plain overshadowed. Although far from bad, Animal Magnetism isn't a highlight of the Scorpions' career. ~ Barry Weber
Recorded at Dierks Studios, Cologne, Germany and Manta Sound Studios, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Classic Although this and the Lovedrive album were not the pinnacle of Scorpions' popular recordings, the true Scorpions lover will come to know these two albums as perhaps their best musical productions top to bottom. This is classic Scorpions at the top of their game. There is no filler, every track is a gem in its own right.
The lyrics are captivating and spontaneous, following through with lusty perfection on the album theme. The rhythms are nicely varied and musically interesting, and all carry the songs with the right individual intensity. The lead guitar tracks have a nice echoing resonance that really enhances the album theme. Riffs and solos are extremely tight, well-placed, and wonderfully complementary to the melodic dynamics.
The rough-edged but undeniably powerful and talented voice of Klaus Meine really comes into its own on this album. His voice is hauntingly guitar-like, and leaves the subconscious impression of a second lead guitar in many places. His ability to transition and sustain the melody across the various breaks and dynamics really stands out.
How the top-to-bottom quality of this album has remained lost on the public for years is rather enigmatic. Lady Starlight and The Zoo grabbed most of the radio airplay at the time of its release, which was really a bad oversight, because Make It Real, Don't Make No Promises, Twentieth Century Man, Falling in Love, and the title track were all worthy of being hits but just never got the exposure. This is one of those rare albums that you can replay for hours on end without losing the distinct taste for each track. It belongs in anyone's serious classic rock library. Their Finest Ever! Right from the start with Make It Real you know you are in for something special. Great vocals, drums and guitars make this a near-faultless album. The ballad Lady Starlight is also different class. Classic 80's Heavy Metal. Submitted by Martin (Glasgow, Scotland) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
