The press may have dubbed Barry White "the walrus of love," but he was certainly the guru of something for many star crossed lovers across his Love Unlimited Orchestra output. While White rocketed up the charts with his solo "I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little Bit More" in 1973, it was that same year's smash single "Love's Theme" that shot Love Unlimited Orchestra right up alongside him. Mostly instrumental, all orchestral, and packed with "that" tchka tchka guitar and full-fledged disco sound well before the genre reached maturity, Rhapsody in White set the stage and showcased the sounds that would shortly inspire a generation of producers, arrangers, and performers to start a million mirror balls spinning the world over. This album, in all its admitted smarminess, is a triumph. From the opening bars of "Barry's Theme," Rhapsody in White unleashes a groove which really keeps it all mellow. And even though we have to listen through three tracks to first hear White's trademarked vocal come-on on "Midnight and You" it's well worth the wait. He gets a little more vocal on side two, across "Don't Take It All Away" and again at the beginning of "Baby Blues," which has shag rug in front of a fireplace written all over its arrangement. But the masterful finale, of course, is "Love's Theme." The song's lush strings and smooth wah-wah guitars not only typified a genre, they also became an aural catchphrase for an entire generation of clubbers. And because this is, underneath it all, a Barry White album, the teaser for the nightcap is delicious. ~ Amy Hanson

Barry Unlimited I have heard many many different kinds of music and musicians, but the adrenalin level opens up only on a Barry White album. I truly believe he is the God of love n music. Not one song i feel he has ever created that one would want to skip at any point of time n mood. His exceptional quality of music and delivery is unbeatable.
This is a special album as this is where Barry excelled in composing exceptionally brilliant music and this is what he always wanted to do with his bandmates.
Surprisingly, a genius with a baritone voice was never interested in mainstream music, n everything he created was still a masterpiece. Thank you Barry for giving us such a wonderful piece of Art. Submitted by tiwarysandeep (India) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

An album to leave you in ecstacy There is a story behind purchasing this album. I started thinking about it when a track on White Gold, Barry's follow up to this, Spanish Lei, popped into my head a few weeks ago and I could not get rid of it! Sadly the only copy I have of this and Rhapsody in White are rather worn out cassettes and my car now has a CD. I searched high and low for them on the internet and good old CD Universe came up with the goods at the right price...and it is just great! Love's Theme is an eternal classic, you only have to listen to this to appreciate what a multi-talented man Barry White was. As a postscript, and this is rather spooky, I ordered this CD, and the companion album White Gold, on line the very day that he died. Sends shivers down the spine.. Spanning the years 1972-1980, The Best of Love Unlimited is a generous 17-track overview of the female trio's career, with the vast majority of the songs produced and written (or co-written) by their mentor, Barry White. Naturally, their two big hits are present: the gold-selling R&B Top Ten hit "Walkin' in the Rain (With the One I Love)" and the R&B number one "I Belong to You." But with White at the controls, Love Unlimited managed a number of other fine moments, usually with ...
