Featuring a minor guest appearance by Jon Bon Jovi, Cinderella's debut album, Night Songs, positions the band as a second-tier pop-metal outfit, with a mix of ballads ("Nobody's Fool") and rockers ("Somebody Save Me") one might find on an album by any similar '80s band with a high-pitched vocalist. It's not bad, just generic; the band does hint at the potential it would fulfill on later albums, but little of Cinderella's own personality shows through at this point. ~ Steve Huey
Jon Bon Jovi discovered this Pennsylvania band, whose album is filled with the kind of catchy pop-metal his own band plays. Produced by Andy Johns. ~ John Book

It doesn't get any better than this! Cinderella is one of my personal favorites, as I attest to having their entire collection. I love all of their albums but this one will always be my favorite! A top 5 hard rock album in my book.
Nothing gets my adrenaline pumping like the title track, "Night Songs". Submitted by UpTheIrons (Rock Hill, SC) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
80's hard rock doesn't get much better than this 80's hard rock doesn't get much better than this. I wish they would release a reamstered/deluxe version. Submitted by ZJ (Iowa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Solid, solid work! FIrst off, ignore the ridiculous cover photo. This is CInderella's most straightforward, no-frills album. At this point, they're pretty much basic East Coast hard rock, with that AC/DC-influenced sound also used by the likes of Kix, DIrty Looks, Britny Fox, and others. There are only flashes of the creativity they'd show on later releases, but Night Songs is a very consistent album with strong songs, good (but not flashy) musicians, and the singular Tom Keifer. Oh yeah, and "Back Home Again" is a very overlooked song. Submitted by Fizz (Delmarva) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Exciter New Testament CD (2004)
Night Songs CD music
$5.79 Most would agree that Canadian thrashers Exciter were short-changed by the speed metal gods during their 1980s heyday. Worthy contributors to the genre's early development, their legacy was nevertheless completely overshadowed by the likes of Metallica and Slayer, who went on to fame and fortune while Exciter were duly forgotten. Still, cruel fate's unfair selection methods hardly warrant an obvious cash-in like 2004's New Testament -- a collection of Exciter's metal-thrashing classics (and some of their latter-day, not-so-classics) recut in the studio by the group's latest incarnation of founding guitarist John Ricci and late-'90s regulars Jacques Belanger (vocals) and Rick Charron (drums). Then again, a man's gotta eat (and in Exciter's case, also maintain expensive Spinal Tap-like hair pieces) and it's only fair that these aging but hard-working veterans be allowed to reap the fruits of their life's work, right? With all that in mind, New Testament offers an interesting assortment of rehashed "hits" from the extensive Exciter catalog -- so long as they featured Ricci, who was himself absent from the group for a seven-year period. Thankfully, this only encompassed two albums (only one of them any good) and means that you get nine songs ("Violence & Force," "Heavy Metal Maniac," "Long Live the Loud," etc.) from Exciter's first three, truly landmark LPs, and six more ("Rule ...
| | Allman Brothers Band Idlewild South CD (1970) Gold; Collector's Edition; Limited Edition; Omr; Mini LP Sleeve
Night Songs music CDs
$27.05 Betts's other contribution to IDLEWILD SOUTH is the instrumental "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed," a centerpiece of the Fillmore East recordings. Gregg's "Please Call Home" and "Midnight Rider" are built around piano and acoustic guitar, respectively, and have a different feel than the band's usual twin Les Paul-and-Hammond sound. That sound is showcased in the balance of Gregg's tunes, however: the funky blues of "Don't Leave Me Wonderin'" (with Thom Doucette on harmonica) and "Leave My Blues At Home." Though it packs less punch than THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND, IDLEWILD SOUTH is all the more impressive for its mixture of chunky grooves and sophisticated textures.
If you're going to listen to the Allman Brothers, make sure you have the first four records. THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND, IDLEWILD SOUTH, LIVE AT FILLMORE EAST, and EAT A PEACH are the albums the band made with their original ...
