Finally, someone got wise and noticed the absence of Vangelis' superb soundtracks on CD. Hats off to 'em, as now anyone enamored of Vangelis' work on BLADE RUNNER, THE BOUNTY, or some of his more obscure projects now has reason to rejoice. BLADE RUNNER has since been made available in its entirety, but the taste offered earlier on THEMES did much to sate the senses before the full soundtrack's release.
THEMES is most notable for featuring Vangelis' now-signature theme from CHARIOTS OF FIRE, the main theme from Costa-Gavras' MISSING, and the opening and closing sections from THE BOUNTY. The latter remain some of the composer's most underrated and majestic works. THE BOUNTY's opening theme is a twilight excursion into the unknown hinterlands, with whistling electronics and isolationist synth harnessed to a clanking percussive pattern. The closing theme, a somber mass of deep-ocean synths and yearning rhythms, echoes the film's sacrificial ending. A case study in electronics rendered with intellect.

The music just take you on a mental trip, When you need the world to go away and drift off to dream land this music will help! Like Yanni and Ray Linch or Orbital Its peacefull in a Techno way before Techno was techno.

This is the best album you can buy for the money & for the quanity & quality; on one album! Nothing in the entire collection of Vangelis tops this ablum! If you've been around the block with these guys, then this CD is a must for your collection! If you're new to the stage of Vangelis, than this album ought to be your first! Really folks, wether you listen to 'Industrial' to 'Rock', this WILL make you feel anywhere from brillantly sad to death on a dark step, to up lifting and mystic all in one!

Having already heard just about everything there is by Vangelis it would be hard to say he could do better. I guess I'm eating my own words. He aced this album. This album captures just about every emotion one could feel from music. From the sadness of "Missing" to the victoriousness of "Bladerunner" he captures it all. Plus, he hits everything in between such as the reverent music from "Hymne". If you like New Age Music and you're not a Vangelis fan, you will be after listening to this album!

Up Your Mind is the American debut by soul-blues singer/songwriter Ellis Hooks. Originally hailing from Mobile, AL, he was an itinerant musician, scrambling and scuffling across the globe, often as a busker. His debut album, Undeniable, garnered a slew of attention on the other side of the Atlantic and has afforded him the notoriety and critical acclaim to play the Montreux Jazz Festival and the esteemed Poretta Festival in Italy. Hooks resides in New York and is remaking music in his own image by using and fusing traditional elements from soul, rock, and the Mississippi Delta played in a direct, gritty manner. Hooks doesn't sift and he doesn't blend, he sculpts and shapes, leaving the rough grain on the surface to admire. Hooks and veteran producer Jon Tiven offer a streetwise, passion-filled toughness in their deep, sensual mix. Hooks has a voice that owes a great debt to Otis Redding first and Wilson Pickett second (who Tiven produced for many years), and an approach in his songwriting that is eclectic, knotty, and groove-solid. Up Your Mind's 13 songs run the gamut from the funky, dirty city blues of the opener "Ridin' With Fire" (with a distinct guitar line that comes straight outta "Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo") to the Muscle Shoals-strolling soul groove à la Eddie Hinton of "Controlling Picasso" and the swollen, smoky, deeply sensual roil of "Down for the Last Time." Here, stinging guitars and Hammond B3's crisscross under a heavily reverbed vocal with a double-timed rhythm track that is ready for remixing by DJs in clubs all over the world.
