Sammy Kershaw fans who prefer ballads like "Love of My Life" over rowdier numbers like "Cadillac Style" will enjoy MAYBE NOT TONIGHT, an album in which Kershaw's fine, traditional voice is used to full effect on a batch of well-written, affecting songs. While there are a few up-tempo tracks here, like the swampy "Louisiana Hot Sauce" and the hilarious "Ouch," MAYBE NOT TONIGHT mostly finds Kershaw in sensitive guy mode. The subject matter, as one might expect, concerns love and its perils ("When You Love Someone," "How Can I Say No," Leo Sayer's "More Than I Can Say").
The highlight is the title track, a duet with Kershaw's longtime pal Lorrie Morgan. As they trade verses, the two singers paint an evocative picture of a broken marriage that still has a chance of being repaired. Kershaw does some of his best singing ever here, and Morgan is great as usual. Other standouts include "What I Did To Us," the heartbreaking confession of a divorced dad who finally realizes the effect his behavior has had on his family, and "How Much Does the World Weight," a socially conscious ballad about the emotional pain of everyday people struggling to get by.
Principally recorded at The Tracking Room and Javalina Recording Studio, Nashville, Tennessee.
Personnel includes: Sammy Kershaw, Lorrie Morgan (vocals); Steve Dorf (conductor); John D. Willis ...

You'll Never Know album
$13.35 TAKING DRUGS TO MAKE MUSIC TO TAKE DRUGS TO is a compilation that includes early demos and B-sides.
For the majority of its six-year career, Britain's Spacemen 3 pursued its sound-for-sound's-sake obsessions in near-total oblivion. It turns out, however, that the band was merely a decade or so ahead of its time. Spacemen 3 featured guitarist/keyboardists Pete "Sonic Boom" Kember and Jason "Spaceman" Pierce. They later formed Spectrum and Spiritualized, respectively, and the much more commercially and critically successful '90s work of those two sonic iconoclasts has fueled much more interest in Spacemen 3 than the band ever received during its 1985-91 lifespan.
The aptly titled TAKING DRUGS TO MAKE MUSIC TO TAKE DRUGS TO, first released as a sanctioned bootleg in 1990 but made more widely available in 1994, shows the Spacemen at the beginning. The disc features very early recordings of songs, including the band's signature track, "Walkin' With Jesus," that ...
