Goth-Industrial at its best...Serpentine Gallery Growing up in New York City, there’s a little taste of every kind of music that exists (or at least you think there is). Floating around the chaotic Times Square, having silly bubble-gum pop, weak rock (or the current excuse for rock), screaming metal artists that don't know what they're doing and more mainstream music thrown in your face that really only appeals to people trying to fit in with everybody else. Whatever happened to good original music?
I gave up on music for a while...didn't think there was much out there worth my time. Then out of nowhere I did some random searches online, looking for female singers (that's my own personal taste)... I came across Switchblade Symphony. It was categorized as Goth. Goth? What the hell is that? I've heard of it, but never really actually heard it. I forgot about Switchblade Symphony for a while. I came across it again one day and noticed that the name sounded very familiar but didn't know what there sound was. So I clicked on a little 30 sec music sampler and it was at that moment I discovered something really amazing that had almost slipped between my fingers.
The opening track on debut album Serpentine gallery, "Bad Trash" blew me away. Full of fast heavy beats and great guitar sounds, plus the voice of opera-trained singer Tina Root. I was so amazed at how well the band had put one song together I forgot that there were 10 more tracks on the album. The next track "Dissolve" really displays their gothic melodies. Slow and melodic, seductively tasteful. Tina really shows how talented of a singer she really is.
Overall the CD is amazing but certain tracks seem to stand out a little more. Track 5 "Clown" makes your core shake, you really start to feel a little scared of every upcoming second of the song. Track 7, "Dollhouse" is filled with a slightly upbeat mood and pretty, high-pitched sounds in the background in addition to Tina's opera-like vocals as the track progresses. I never thought anyone would throw opera vocals over industrial-goth, or any kind of music. Bonus points there for originality!!!
Track 9 "Gutter Glitter" may have to be the most interesting of the album. The beautiful lyrics sang by Tina Root give a little twist to a popular children’s rhyme..."London bridge did fall down, my fair lady nearly drowned, what is the reason to lock her up when already she has such rotten luck". Brilliant!
I strongly recommend this album if you are already into goth, industrial, nu-metal, alternative, or simply opened-minded to new sounds.

$18.59 Iron Maiden's live album DEATH ON THE ROAD captured the heavy-metal legends at a stop on their 2003 tour, which promoted both that year's DANCE OF DEATH and the best-of collection EDWARD THE GREAT. Recorded at the Westfalenhalle Arena in Dortmund, Germany, this concert film presents DEATH ON THE ROAD in visual form, with Maiden tearing through newer fare from DANCE OF DEATH as well as older classics like "Can I Play with Madness" and "The Trooper" for a potent showcase of singer Bruce Dickinson's soaring vocals and the band's trademark three-guitar assault.

| | Susan Krebs Group What Am I Here For? CD (2003)
Serpentine Gallery album
$10.59 "Susan Krebs, a talented singer with wit and energy, who deserves much greater recognition." (L.A.Times ) Following the 1999 release of her well-received album, "JAZZ GARDENER" on Sea Breeze Records, "WHAT AM I HERE FOR?" is the new project from Los Angeles jazz vocalist, SUSAN KREBS and her group of superb L.A. based musicians, including the sublime world-class saxophone player, GARY FOSTER. Co-produced by Krebs and drummer/vibist Jerry Kalaf, this CD offers modern and elegant arrangements of some well-known standards as well as a few more obscure and seldom recorded tunes. Also included is an original blues, "YOU BOTHER ME", with Lyrics by Krebs and Music by the extraordinary trumpet player/composer, CARL SAUNDERS and the exciting pianist/composer RICH EAMES, whose delightful arrangement is reminiscent of vintage George Shearing. Suze is a swinging and deeply expressive vocalist, with a warm and resonant sound, choosing songs with wit and meaning. She is also a seasoned professional actor, performing in film, television and theater, which serves her well in the telling of her tale through song. Here's what some REVIEWERS and RADIO Program Directors are saying:The Susan Krebs Group - "What Am I Here For?" (GreenGig Music)"Vocalist Susan Krebs, (aka "the Jazz Gardener") has come to market with another enjoyable CD. It features 11 tracks of songs, eclectic and carefully selected. They range from a timely "Peace" (Horace Silver) to "Nature Boy", "Good Morning Heartache", "A Sleepin' Bee", "You Bother Me" and a standout "Ten Minutes Ago" (Rodgers & Hammerstein). - An actress as well, the charismatic Krebs knows how to apply the right touch for the mood of each song, and does an excellent job of presenting her selections here. As always, she surrounds herself with L.A.'s top musicians. In this case, pianist Rich Eames, alto saxophonist-flutist Gary Foster, bassist Luther Hughes, who alternates on some tracks with Ken Wild. Mike Clinco, guitar, Scott Breadman, percussion, and last, but certainly not least, drummer-vibist Jerry Kalaf. Recommended (LA Jazz Scene )"Thanks so much! Your new CD, "What Am I Here For?", is wonderful, and will certainly get good airplay here! You should be getting better recognition in the jazz world!" (Program Director/North Country Public Radio/N.Y.)"This is a mix of great instrumental jazz with the mellow vocals of Susan Krebs ... this is a balanced set that we found ourselves listening to time and time again." (Oscar Groomes/O's Place Jazz Newsletter)It's an excellent album. I plan to eventually air every track on it. I like the tunes you chose, some familiar to me and others new discoveries for me. And the instrumentalists on the album are top-notch.... I hope you're getting some good airplay because the album deserves it. (Program Dir./KAWC/Yuma)Suze: I really love your record. Between what I am sent and what I buy, I hear some bad things, many decent things, and some exceptional records. Yours is definitely in the later category. It's outstanding. I mean it. (Jack Frieden//Vocal Sounds of Jazz)" This is Krebs', the self-proclaimed "Jazz Gardener's" second recording. As before, "The Swinging Druids" provide the instrumental accompaniment. An inspection of the cover art, as well ...

$12.89 The 2006 U.S. edition of SUPERNATURE features the bonus track "Beautiful," a surging techno-tinged tune on a par with the album's best songs.
Arguably Goldfrapp's most accessible and immediately engaging album, SUPERNATURE features the British duo mixing sensual electronica with catchy pop to wonderful effect. Sounding like the result of Ziggy Stardust crash-landing in Prince's studio during a session with Kylie Minogue, this outing sparkles with willful decadence and glamour, opening with the T. Rex-like techno-stomp of "Ooh La La." Alison Goldfrapp's voice often recalls both Minogue and Kate Bush, with the music generally veering towards the dance-floor furor of ...
