Star Trek: First Contact Soundtrack album
$15.69 PATTON was previously released on Cassablanca Records. This is the premiere recording of TORA! TORA! TORA!.
This 1997 release of the music for PATTON features composer Jerry Goldsmith conducting the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. The performance is a robust reading of the score, giving breath to Goldsmith's sweeping, martial themes. Naturally, given the film's subject, much of the music has an overt militaristic flavor. Various battle sequences in the film are represented by processionals, marches, and bombastic swells of sound characterized by ruffling drums and brass fanfare (one figure in particular--a series of triplets played on a trumpet--is the score's most consistent leitmotiv).
But much of the score ...

In 1999, the Legacy label reissued Jerry Goldsmith's lauded score to STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE. Not only did the meticulously packaged release feature the lush pieces originally presented on the '79 soundtrack, it also offered up more than 20 minutes of previously unreleased material. The album's crowning achievement, of course, is the majestic "Main Title," which is immediately recognizable due to its prominent use in this first film, in the original television series, and in other subsequent STAR TREK movies and TV shows.
Each composition reveals Goldsmith's ability to both reflect and heighten the drama unfolding on the screen, whether it's the ominous, percussive "Klingon Battle" or the tense yet dreamy "Spock's Arrival." Along with John Williams's work on the original STAR WARS, this album is one of the preeminent sci-fi scores, and is a must-have for Trekkies and fans of Goldsmith's bold compositions. This 20TH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTOR'S EDITION also contains a bonus disc that includes STAR TREK musings by creator Gene Roddenberry and the one and only William ...

In the early '80s, Collins took a break from the helm of Genesis to inaugurate a solo career that abandoned his group's art-rock agenda for a mainstream pop approach. In the ensuing years, the king of Nice Guy Pop established himself as one of the world's premier top 40 balladeers, ...

Star Trek: First Contact Soundtrack songs
$11.79 A Montreal based-performer with connections to the Constellation record collective, Harris Newman isn't trying to sound like the most well-known avatar from that city, Godspeed You Black Emperor!. If anything Non-Sequiturs is an enjoyable polar opposite focusing in on Newman's abilities on acoustic guitar, backed with percussion on various songs from fellow Montreal performer Bruce Cawdron. Much like Newman's labelmate on Strange Attractors, German performer Steffen Basho-Junghans, Newman is inspired by any number of intriguing forebears in American avant-folk of the 20th century. Though John Fahey is an obvious and acknowledged reference point (and perhaps ultimately inescapable given his impact on instrumental folk music), Newman's debut release calls to mind other performers as well, and proves as enjoyable a reinterpretation ...

Star Trek: First Contact Soundtrack CD music
$24.65 At a young age, Kala Ramnath has already established herself as one of the most outstanding violinists of India. She comes from a distinguished musical family that has produced generations of well-known violinists. The credit for grooming most of them goes to Vidwan Narayana Iyer, who has uniquely trained his students in both the North and South Indian musical forms. From the thirteenth century onwards, India has developed two distinct musical systems. The Karnatic music of the South lays greater emphasis on fixed compositions. It has remained largely unchanged for hundreds of years and has maintained a close connection with music of the temples. The Hindustani music of North India places more stress on improvisation and virtuosity. It has been subject to external influences, most notably the Moghul Invaders. In spite of its ability to reproduce every shade and nuance of vocal music, the violin has very few outstanding exponents in the North. On the contrary, Karnatic music boasts a long list of virtuoso violinists, who continue to enjoy sustained popularity in the South. Kala Ramnath has based her solo career on the expansive style of North Indian music. More specifically, she plays in the Hindustani vocal style of Khyal, which out of all vocal genres allows its performers the greatest opportunity to display the depth and ...
