Digitally remastered by Elliott Federman (2000, SAJE Sound, New York, New York). The 5th Dimension's fourth album almost plays like a Greatest Hits collection. Beside the title smash from the Broadway musical HAIR, hits from THE AGE OF ... Full DescriptionAQUARIUS include two obligatory Laura Nyro songs: the infectious "Blowing Away," and the perhaps deliberately ironic (given its counterculture context) "Wedding Bell Blues," plus the almost Nyro-worthy "Working On a Groovy Thing," by Neil Sedaka.
The rest of the album is the group's usual high gloss L.A. pop/rock. Highlights include a cover of the Everly Brothers' "Let It Be Me" that achieves a near-Phil Spector-like grandeur, and a re-working of Mary Hopkin's "Those Were the Days." The latter adds a soul feel to the vaguely eastern European strains of the original; it's like hearing an R&B band at a bar mitzvah--in a good way. There's also a great Latin rocker, "Dontcha Hear Me Callin' to Ya," which suggests that the group was aware of Santana, and a cover of Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love" that is truly, though perhaps unintentionally, psychedelic.
McLemore, Ron Townson (vocals).

$9.54 Two years after scoring platinum success with MY GHETTO REPORT CARD, E-40 returns with one of his most eclectic LPs to date. On THE BALL STREET JOURNAL, the rap vet and foremost emissary of the Bay Area sound lays his unmistakable flow over beats by Lil Jon, Jonathan Rothem, Akon, T-Pain, Drumma Boy, and DJ Nasty, among others. Opening the record by rightly proclaiming himself "The Ambassador," 40 Water goes on to rip a characteristically crunked-up Lil Jon beat alongside Shawty Lo on "Break Ya Ankles" and take ...

Age of Aquarius CD music
$6.04 What began as an intended five-song downloadable collaboration with North Carolina beatsmith Khrysis swelled to a tight, filler-free opus from the L.A. MC known as Evidence. Starting from the concept of a seemingly endless airport wait, the Dilated Peoples frontman lays his economical rhyme flow over a slew of street-level beats (courtesy of the Alchemist, Sid Roams, Babu, Khrysis, and himself). At just 10 tracks deep, THE LAYOVER stands as a compact masterpiece from one of the West Coast's most talented lyricists.
This band is made up of one third of the influential L.A. hip-hop group Dilated Peoples. This DVD/CD set includes 6 new tracks from Evidence as well as 3 other tracks, plus a DVD featuring the first full video collaboration between Jason Goldwatch and Evidence focusing ...
| | Sam Cooke Portrait Of A Legend: 1951-64 CD (2003)
Age of Aquarius music CDs
$14.35 Contains an untitled hidden track which follows "Jesus Gave Me Water."
Sam Cooke was a giant not just in the soul world, but in the larger scheme of American music. His melding of soul, gospel, and pop was as trenchant as it was revolutionary and influential. This unbeatable 30-song compilation touches on every aspect of this phenomenally gifted singer-songwriter's career. The romantic croon of "You Send Me" shares space with the mournful "Sad Mood," the romping "Twistin' the Night Away," and the moving social/spiritual statement "A Change Is Gonna Come" (this compilation is one of the rare collections to have this stirring and sought-after track). For pure fun, it's hard to beat the humor-filled "Another Saturday Night." Perhaps the master stroke, though, is "Havin' a Party." As no less esteemed a personage than Bruce Springsteen once observed, it's an ostensibly celebratory song that seems to bear a deep sadness via Cooke's vocal performance, a sense of laughing to keep from crying. At the same time, Cooke manages the considerable feat of making loneliness sound like fun. It takes some kind of singer to pull off a trick like that. And it takes some kind of production team (take a bow, Teri Landi and Jody Klein) to bring such vibrant new life to the legendary material so lovingly remastered and repackaged for this top-shelf compilation.
The greatest single disc Sam Cooke collection ever, 30 tracks from gospel through his greatest hits including 'Touch The Hem Of His Garment', 'You Send Me', Chain Gang', '(What A) Wonderful World' & 'A Change Is Gonna ...

| | Very Best Of Prince CD (2001)
Age of Aquarius album
$12.99 Considerably more streamlined than previous compilations THE HITS 1 and THE HITS 2, the 17 songs that make up THE VERY BEST OF PRINCE offer a nice tour through the Purple One's chart successes for Warner Brothers from 1978 to 1993. Mixed in among chart toppers like the quirky "When Doves Cry," Hendrix-fueled mania of "Let's Go Crazy" and stripped-down funk of "Kiss" are enough brilliant moments to make you wish the guy had focused more on music and less on the identity shifts that characterized most of the '90s.
Starting with the 1979 #1 "I Wanna Be Your Lover," Prince's pop sensibilities and inquisitive nature have found him cleverly bouncing back and forth between the twin poles of sex and spirituality. Whether it's the runaway pledge of faith found in "I Would Die 4 U," sly lasciviousness of "Gett Off" or battle-of-the-sexes throw-down with Sheena Easton on "U Got The Look," this Minneapolis native's way with a hook makes more of an impression in retrospect than his ability to shock. Other highlights include the millennial jam "1999," chilling view of the world "Sign O' The Times," gorgeous "Diamonds And Pearls" and irresistible "Alphabet Street."
Out of print in the U.S.! Putting together a single-disc compilation from Prince must have been a tough task, but whoever put this together did a great job. 17 of the R&B/Pop icon's best including 'When Doves Cry', 'Little Red Corvette', 'Kiss', ...
