A blues-rock classic from the other side of the Atlantic, Rory Gallagher's 1973 outing, BLUEPRINT, stands out as one of the Irish guitarist/singer's finest studio recordings (Some fans argue that his concert albums, particularly IRISH TOUR, outshine his other records). Opening with the one-two punch of the appropriately searing "Walking on Hot Coals" and the dynamic "Daughter of the Everglades," the album presents the revered six-stringer in top form, and supported by a tight backing band that includes keyboardist/guitarist Lou Martin. Although Gallagher easily astounds with his blistering electric playing, he also showcases his considerable acoustic skills on tracks such as "Banker's Blues" and "Unmilitary Two-Step," which both nod to old-fashioned rural blues and provide a platform for his raspy-voiced emoting. Combined with TATTOO, released later that year, BLUEPRINT presents Gallagher at the peak of his mid-'70s powers, and reinforces his status as one of the most underrated blues-guitar heroes.
Recorded at Marquee Studios and Polydor Studios, London, England. Includes liner notes by Donal Gallagher.

Q (3/00, p.119) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...sounding not unlike Eric Clapton, especially on the honky-tonk groove of 'Walk On Hot Coals' and on the woozy, Cream-inspired 'Daughter Of The Everglades'..." Mojo (Publisher) (3/00, p.119) - "...Diehards will relish the bonus tracks, improved artwork and enhanced sound..."

BRAVO RORY! A friend of mine gave me this in LP format back in 1974. I did not know who he was at all. Totally oblivious to his talent. I played the grooves off of the LP so bad that I had to go out and purchase another copy. I started everyday out by playing this LP. This LP/CD will definitely get your blood pumping. I got to see him in late 1974 at a very high profile bar not only 45 miles from my hometown. I was totally blown away by his performance. He sounded exactly like his record. Just plain straight forward rock and blues. What a performer! After the show he came out in the bar and went around just talking to patrons as if he was just a regular at this bar.(A performer in those days could do that without being paranoid)This bar by the way was called "The Thunder Chicken" out on Alpine Avenue in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Got to talk to him briefly and shook his hand to congratulate him on his fine talent/performance. A night I will never forget. I was able later as the years went on to get this title on CD but had to buy it as an import. Mine is not remastered unfortunately, but sound quality is not half bad. I see here it is remastered with bonus tracks. If you buy only one Rory Gallagher CD, this is the one to have. A blood pumper CD to own. Get it you won't regret it. I rest my case. Awesome I only got into Rory Gallagher about a year ago . I have all but 2 of his cd's . I can honestly say they are all excellent . This ranks as one of my top 3 or 4 out of his releases . Jinx would probably be # 1. Submitted by sabbathpurple (Long Island , NY) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo This review is for a different format.
