BETTER BE GOOD features 1977-79 studio recordings, alternate takes from THE REAL KIDS and demos.

BETTER BE GOOD is an 18-track compilation of alternate takes and live versions of songs that showed up on various releases by the Real Kids and the Taxi Boys, who for all intents and purposes were the same band. Leader John Felice, who was in the first, unrecorded lineup of the Modern Lovers with his next-door neighbor Jonathan Richman in the early '70s and later roadied for the Ramones, is a punk rock savant; the Real Kids were the first truly great Boston punk band, although they sounded much more like the Flamin Groovies than the Sex Pistols. These three-chord rockers, bracketed by two versions of the great "All Kindsa Girls," are tough, cool, and catchy. Complete novices should probably start with the original albums, but these alternate versions are much more than mere ephemera.

For anyone who dug the Real Kids first record, the bulk of what's on Better Be Good comprises alternate (outtake) versions of all the same material, mostly differing in the vocal delivery (and indeed more in keeping with the band's live sound in those days). An essential supplement to the red star (1st) album. Top that off with the band's debut single versions of "All Kindsa Girld" and "Common At Noon", and 4 great cuts from the Bomp label EP (heretofor not available on CD) and you have what is probably The Real Kids best showing on compact disc, at the very least the equal of the first album or the best material on the live Grown Up Wrong set.

Unlike most of the folks,i strongly recommend this alternative collection of rehearsals & demos,as they represent the Kids at their best...
You just can't sit down when hearing the sonic thunderstorm these four boys from suburban areas generate groove after groove...
Needless to say they were stars in France & complete unknowns in their homeland(remember the Groovies,buddy?).
So,eat your heart out,Mr Bush,the frogs had impeccable taste this time around!!!
