An unlikely bunch to be hailed as such, the clean-cut New York City-based quartet--led by classically trained Oregon transplant Page Hamilton--created such a massive buzz in the underground ... On its major-label debut, Helmet threw out convention, and, in doing so, reshaped the face of alternative rock. Taking cues from post-punk influences like Big Black, Helmet deconstructed songs to their very essences, eliminating guitar solos, drum fills, and anything else even remotely extraneous. The result was a furious bombardment of solid three-note riffage, unpredictable time signatures, abrupt drum breaks, and tense jazz-influenced harmonies. Focused and precise, MEANTIME screams with unprecedented immediacy and confidence. Although the record wasn't quite the mainstream success it was slated to be, MEANTIME helped to define the sub-genre of alternative metal and inspired legions to follow Helmet's lead. The band's legacy can be heard in the music of Deftones, Linkin Park, Korn, and countless others.

If there was ever an album to own it would have to be Helmet Meantime. Helmet, the godfathers of the that hard twang you hear in everyone's album was started here. Fromt the first yelp in Meantime to the last thug in FBLA. Helment will always play the national anthem for our nations youth.

Absolutely a must, for those that like the hard core from New York. Early 90s, rude, melodic as well, and powerful!

Best Helmet Ever
I first saw them playing in a small club in CA; their performance blew me away and I bought the CD the next day. The production is excellent and it's nice and heavy, just what every metal fan should enjoy. If this isn't in your collection, buy it as soon as possible.

This album's got the same "precise" & "dry" sound as Prongs "Cleansing" Hard & stiff:ish.
It's a great album, in my piont of view it's the best Helmet album, Not as "Indie" as the "Aftertaste" album, it's more "Hard"
