Circle Line music CDs
$14.49 Intuit, a quartet session devoted entirely to standards, is not entirely representative of Kurt Rosenwinkel's art. However, it does reveal the depth of the guitarist's expertise in the bop idiom, and is therefore worth the attention of devoted fans. Rosenwinkel's sound throughout this straight-ahead excursion is fairly dry -- a touch of reverb, no shimmering delay, no ethereal vocalizing, a bit less distinctive than usual. His highly modern approach to harmony often comes through, however, even on vehicles as traditional as "Darn That Dream." And, as always, he uses the physical properties of the guitar to alter the sonic dimensions of ...
| | Cannonball Adderley Cannonball Takes Charge CD (1959) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Circle Line songs
$9.79 Adderley was on the verge of leaving Miles Davis's Sextet when he recorded the seven titles and two alternates that comprise this LP, the sixth in a seven-volume series of Riverside dates reissued by producer Orrin Keepnews. Accompanied by pianist Wynton Kelly and alternating bassists and drummers, Adderley is in fine form on these standards with the emphasis leaning a bit toward ballads and blues. Highlights include "Serenata," "Poor Butterfly" and two versions of "I Remember You." ~ Scott Yanow
Cannonball Adderley is in top form on this 1959 release, which was originally issued by Riverside. Joined by pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Jimmy Cobb (his bandmates at the time in the Miles Davis Sextet), the alto saxophonist delivers a soulful "I Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out to Dry" and ...

| | Pablo Mayor-Folklore Urbano Corazon CD (2009)
Circle Line CD music
$17.09 Check out Pablo Mayor on the cover of Latin Beat magazine, May 2009!Here's a review from inside the magazine: This is the third production of the New York City-based band Folklore Urbano, led by multi-hyphenate Pablo Mayor, and his wife, Anna Povich de Mayor (flutist and band manager). Since their debut recording "Aviso" (2003), Mayor and Folklore Urbano have been redefining modern Colombian music by fusing its traditional folkloric rhythms with elements of jazz and other musical influences, resulting in a unique sound. Corazon (Heart) includes a total of ten scores, eight of which are original compositions penned by Mayor, who also arranges all the tracks. The twelve-member collective known as Folklore Urbano swings like a fine-tuned big band as it takes the roots of Colombian rhythms on a rollercoaster ride of sophisticated arrangements and liberating jazzy applications, track after track. Mayor is a devotee of crosscultural diversity and moody experimentations, who creates compelling music, full of textural complexity. Adding vocal elements to the band are SofĂa Rei Koutsovitis and Ronald Polo. Highlighting this dazzling recording are the tracks "Cada Vez", "Expresar Amor", "Dejate Amar", and Panuelitos Blancos. -Rudy Mingual, Latin Beat, May 2009 issue.More info. on Pablo Mayor: Pablo Mayor, composer, arranger, pianist, from Cali, Colombia, holds both a B.A. and an M.A. in Jazz Arranging from the University of North Texas. While Professor of Jazz at Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia, in 1998, Mr. Mayor began his personal investigation of the native music of Colombia. Although it will be a lifelong process of discovery, Mr. Mayor has taken his knowledge of Colombian folklore and has combined it with an extensive knowledge of jazz harmonies and arranging. Since moving to NYC in 1999, Mr. Mayor's reputation has grown from that of a brilliant pianist and writer, to that of a leader and visionary. His work with his band Folklore Urbano has produced three CD's and taken the band to both national and international venues. Beginning in 2003, featuring the renowned "Gaiteros de San Jacinto," he founded the annual "Encounter of Colombian Musicians in New York," an event in its sixth year running uniting Colombian musicians in an effort to document what he calls a "movement" of Colombian musicians in the world, beginning in New York City. The Sixth Annual Encounter of Colombian Musicians in NY will be held June 14, 2009, at the High Line Ballroom in Maniatan, featuring such renowned musicians as Hector Martignon, Samuel Torres, Edmar Castaneda, Marta Gomez, ...
