| | Sidney Bechet Runnin' Wild CD (1998)
Tate A Tete CD music
$12.79 This late '40s Blue Note date groups jazz legend Sidney Bechet with cornetist Wild Bill Davison and pianist Art Hodes and injects a fresh dose of vitality into Bechet's hard-driving style of New Orleans jazz. Backed by a strong rhythm section, the three musicians swap leads on classics like "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out," "Basin Street Blues," and "When the Saints Go Marching In." Such traditional songs as "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho" (note the swinging, hand-clap intro) are given such energized readings as to make them immune to criticisms of shallow revivalism.

"With nine sparkling originals that include keyboardist Dan Siegel as a special guest on one, and an awesome Tower of Power-'esque cover of L.T.D.'s "Back in Love Again", ON THE MARK is what today's dynamic sounding Smooth Jazz is and should be all about." No rookie to the Smooth Jazz scene, Mark has recorded with Dan Siegel, performed at festivals around the country with other artists including Grant Geisman and was featured with the Greg Adams band for almost 3 years. While touring, Mark was initially struck by the crowds who attended many of the Smooth Jazz concerts. "I was really inspired when I started playing many of the festivals.
