Feodor Chaliapin On Stage
$15.39 The haunting bagpipes, a shiver of strings behind them...you can almost feel the cool fog rolling in from the sea, and across a Scottish field. A battlefield, in this case, in the year 1314. It was then that a band of half-starved, hopelessly outnumbered Scottish patriots fought for freedom at a place called Bannockburn. John Horner's soundtrack to "Braveheart," the Mel Gibson film about that epic struggle, is a lustrous, many-faceted, at times stirring piece of work. Even without the images from the film dancing through your head, Horner's themes have staying power and emotional substance. He maintains the feel of place throughout, but never relies too heavily on obvious instrumental cliches (the pipes, for instance, are used sparingly). No doubt, tracks like "The Battle of Stirling" will resonate a bit more if you've seen "Braveheart." That said, Horner's score has a rare quality: It is cinematic, but also enjoyable on its own as orchestral music.

Feodor Chaliapin On Stage
$8.79 The works of Elliott Carter, Gunther Schuller and Charles Wuorinen represent the peak of later 20th century American composition. This recording presents songs by each composer set to such diverse poets as Walt Whitman, Hart Crane, Robert Frost, Dylan Thomas and 8th century Chinese poet, Li-Tai-Pei.
Elliott Carter is arguably the dean of American composers. His 'Frost Poems' were written between 1942 and 1945 and are notable for their simple (by Carter's standards) musical language and shifts in mood. Charles Wuorinen has ambitiously set Dylan Thomas's 'A Winter's Tale' in his own iconoclast style. A richly textured work, Wuorinen admirably captures the solitude of Thomas's text. Gunther Schuller's 'Six Early Songs' are flavored with touches of jazz and impressionism, ...

Feodor Chaliapin On Stage
$13.15 Hi, We're The Combovers. We'd like to invite you to listen to our latest EP "If It Ain't Baroque, Don't Fix It". This EP is a concept-based side project (seperate from our releases of original songs) which explores the idea of performing well known Classical music pieces from a range of traditional music periods in an "un-traditional" way........ Through the means of punk inspired rock. Our band consist of ourselves, the founding members Luke Reichelt and Michael Simms. However, on these recordings we have implored the help of 2 very skilled session musicians (Ian Peres on keyboard and Jeff Paton on Drums) to ensure the up-most coherent transition when taking these classical pieces to such unknown territory for this experimental recording project. The pieces were intended to be performed and produced in such away where the intesity of the original pieces was maintained, but with that "Snotty Rock 'n' Roll" kind of attitude found in the likes of NOFX, Bad Religion and Metallica (to name a few well known examples) Pieces we have recorded for this EP are as follows: 1. In The Hall Of The Mountain King (Grieg)2. Rondo Alla Turca (Mozart)3. Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (Tchaikovsky)4. The Four Seasons - Spring (Vivaldi)5. Symphony No.5 (Beethoven) We kindly ask you to please turn up your speakers and acknowledge ...
