Following the mega-success of the previous year's My Name Is Barbra TV special and two tie-in records, CBS aired Color Me Barbra in March 1966. The album of the same name hit number three two months later and is a gem of a record, a genuinely fun album. Never has Barbra injected so much of her knack for comedy into her songs. Covers, standards, and show tunes are all Streisand-sized and the results are grand numbers with sweeping arrangements and unmistakable vocals.
"One Kiss" is a tender ballad, while Chopin's "The Minute Waltz" is transformed into an upbeat, goofy track. Barbra declares her independence in the similarly brisk "Gotta Move," which includes an excellent horn section. In "Non C'est Rien" she tries her hand at French and "C'est Si Bon" (It's So Good) is a slow, jazzy Gallic spoof. A wonderful medley includes a slow rendition of "What's New Pussycat" and the record concludes with an elegant, yet powerful version of "Starting Here, Starting Now."
This is Barbra Streisand's second TV Special.
Personnel: Barbra Streisand (vocals). Barbra Streisand Color Me Barbra Songs Color Me Barbra Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Perfectly remastered. I have a vinyl recording of this CD but because of its age they don't sound as clean as when I purchase this back in the 60's. The CD is a perfect replacement. Before She Was Political! This album comes from, IMHO, the best period of Barbra's career, when she was a pure entertainer, I think it's one of her best! Submitted by blbaskind (Euclid, OH, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful.
