| | Journey Next CD Journey Discography of CDs
(5 Customer Reviews)
Of all of Journey's early pre-Steve Perry albums, 1977's NEXT is one of the best. Keyboardist Gregg Rolie doubles on vocals for the last time here, and while he isn't as talented a singer as Perry would prove to be on Journey's next album (1978's INFINITY), he does a more than adequate job. Highlights include the album opening trio of songs "Spaceman," "People," and "I Would Find You."
Also available with INFINITY on 1 cassette.

Journey, Next Yes, it is Journey, the Journey that has decades of hits.
But . . .
Journey had to make a tough choice in the 1970’s between their original instrumental rock roots or to move to more commercially successful pop music led by vocals. Okay, starvation gets old.
Journeys self titled original rocker and their second album titled “Next” could pass as two discs in a double album set. Buy one of the two, give it a listen. Discover the original Journey vision, discover that there was rock before Steve Perry, discover how Journey sounded as an undiscovered instrumental ensemble.

Best album by Journey before being ruined This is a great album, the way Journey sounded before Steve Perry came along and wrecked it all. This was their last album before churning out some of the cheesiest "rock" in music history. Submitted by Whammer Jammer (Rocklin, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Next album
$13.04 It wasn't surprising that the Buggles' second release, Adventures in Modern Recording, didn't meet the expectations that 1980's internationally successful The Age of Plastic set. Both Horn and Downes had been working on several outside projects, including Yes' 1980 release Drama, which severely limited their time, and for the most part, Adventures was a Trevor Horn solo project; Geoff Downes only appears on three tracks. However, many of the criticisms leveled against this outing were unfounded and there is still much to like; several songs, such as the infectious title track, equal The Age of Plastic. Both "Adventures in Modern Recording" and "Inner City," with its lush arrangement and engrossing melody, show off Horn's remarkable production savvy. Horn and Downes collaborations like the sultry "Vermillion Sands" and "I Am a Camera" -- a melancholy, stripped-down version of "Into the Lens," which appeared on Drama -- are top-notch. Meanwhile, "Lenny" is a shot of adrenaline that could have fit nicely on Drama as well; actually, a good portion of that album is as much a Buggles recording as anything you'll ...
| | Best Of Sade CD (1994)
Next CD music
$9.69 Digitally remastered by Tom Coyne (Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
Nigerian vocalist Sade Adu has carved out a cosmpolitan niche for herself over the past decade, gathering together elements of cool jazz, samba, reggae, funk and pop all under the pastoral umbrella of her suede-and-velvet voice. A pop stylist with a musical universe all her own, Sade has endured and matured over the past decade, seemingly unaffected by changes in taste and fashion--a movement unto herself.
As her most recent single (Percy Mayfield's "Please Send Me Someone To Love" from the PHILADELPHIA soundtrack) illustrates, Sade's coy caressing voice speaks more of commitment and trust, of relationships in flux ("Nothing Can Come Between Us") than of the heat of the moment: from the the coy duplicity of "Smooth Operator" to the positive reinforcement of "The Sweetest Taboo" and the sweet ambiguities of "Love Is Stronger Than Pride."
Outside of Sade's mentholated vocals, it is the serene, understated quality of her ...

| | Jason Derulo CD (2010)
Next songs
$8.34 Even though he began his career writing hits for the likes of Diddy and Sean Kingston, singer/songwriter Jason Derülo always had his eye on becoming a solo performer. His Auto-Ttuned, Imogen Heap-sampling debut single, "Watcha Say," was an infectious, slick, and on-point way launch a career, but his debut album is less satisfying, even with plenty of the same well-crafted, future R&B as his breakthrough tune. As Derulo seems entirely devoted to the song, the problem may lie with the album format itself. This one barely fits the definition at a scant nine songs, and there's little attention paid to the overall flow, but if you want ...
| | Demon Hunter World Is A Thorn CDs (2010) (Import) With DVD; Deluxe Edition
Next album
$28.69 The World Is a Thorn is the sound of Jesus leading his flock down a musical path that was built upon the foundations of hedonism and power (as well as a general fondness for the occult) and staging a coup. Rebellion can go both ways, and Seattle's Demon Hunter is as embarrassed as anyone about Christian rock's well-earned reputation for conjuring up lifeless, cookie-cutter slabs of faith-based treacle that carry the weight of a fortune cookie prediction. The band's fifth full-length offering is both composed and volatile. It's a carefully plotted collection of staccato, melodic aggro-hymns that owe as much to early-'90s grunge as they do modern, 21st century ...

| | Cult Electric CD (1987) Remastered
Next music CDs
$13.49 Recorded in New York, New York. Includes liner notes by Pat Gilbert.
ELECTRIC was the Cult's mainstream breakthrough album in the United States, where the UK band's previous records, DREAMTIME and LOVE, had been embraced by college radio. After unsatisfying sessions with LOVE producer Steve Brown, the Cult hooked up with superstar hip-hop producer (and unapologetic 1970s-boogie fan) Rick Rubin to re-record the tracks, and his changes make the album. Adding a drum sound as loud as his previous work with the Beastie Boys and Run-DMC and beefing up Billy Duffy's lead guitar riffs into full-on Led Zeppelin territory, Rubin completed the Cult's makeover from psych-tinged goths into '70s-inspired hard-rockers (with a heavy Doors influence as well). The revved-up singles "Love Removal Machine" and "Lil' Devil" best exemplify ELECTRIC, which is arguably the band's best album.

$12.79 This Columbia two-fer combines 1963's Can't Get Used to Losing You with 1967's Love, Andy. For the rare listener (or kitsch fanatic) curious enough to want original LPs from Andy Williams, this isn't the worst choice. The first LP includes a pair of his big hits (the title song, "Days of Wine and Roses") plus Andy's versions of a few hits of the day. The second sinks into kitsch with ...

$12.85 Drowsy, one of the most aptly named artists in recent memory, delivers his full-length debut, Growing Green, one of the most aptly named albums in recent memory. At once spacy and rustic, Growing Green's delicate psych-folk proves that the Syd Barrett and Robert Wyatt comparisons are spot-on, although Drowsy, aka Mauri Haikenen, has an even gauzier, remoter vibe to his songwriting; he sets lyrics like "you are all whores and I hate you all" to luminous acoustic guitars on "Some Cursing" (which is also aptly named). ...

$12.49 The second album by Florida-based singer-songwriter John Ralston moves decisively away from the sparse, Dashboard Confessional-like feel of his debut, NEEDLE BED. In its place, SORRY VAMPIRE is an unapologetically over the top, lavishly produced record that features Ralston and a rotating crew of sidemen and guests creating something akin to an emo version of Phil Spector's Wall of Sound. Multiple vocal and instrumental overdubs, ...
