| | Accept Compilation CD Accept Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
Accept: Herman Frank Jr., Stephan Kaufman, Udo Dirkschneider, Wolf Hoffmanand and Peter Baltes. Bringing together songs from Balls to the Wall and Restless and Wild, this compilation of the two features the best material from Accept's early records, when they were at their heaviest and most influential. ~ David Jehnzen Those expecting Accept's COMPILATION to be a thorough career-spanning retrospective may be in for a bit of a surprise. It focuses on just two of Accept's albums, albeit two of their best--the heavy metal cult classics RESTLESS AND WILD (1983) and BALLS TO THE WALL (1984). Fans of '80s metal from the likes of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, or early Metallica will be in for a special treat if they've never experienced Accept's brutal, aggressive hard rock, which is on display throughout. The vicious album opener, "Fast as a Shark," shows that these German boys could easily keep pace with thrash metal bands, while other standouts include "Restless and Wild," "Love Child," "London Leatherboys," and of course, "Balls to the Wall." COMPILATION is a fine Accept collection. Accept Compilation Songs | 1. | Fast as a Shark |

| | Metallica Death Magnetic CD (2008)
Compilation
$15.65 Metallica: James Hetfield (vocals, guitar); Kirk Hammett (guitar); Robert Trujillo (bass guitar); Lars Ulrich (drums). The world at large got a fly-on-the-wall view of the creation of Metallica's 2003 album, ST. ANGER, via the documentary SOME KIND OF MONSTER, so we know they consciously tried to keep things contemporary at that time by avoiding fleet-fingered solos and eschewing the sound of the "old" Metallica. If that hoary old term "return to form" ever applied to a rock album, though, it's ANGER's follow-up, DEATH MAGNETIC. In the five years between the two releases, ...

| | Rammstein Reise, Reise CD (2004)
Compilation
$11.99 Taking three years to release their follow-up to Mutter is a good idea since Reise, Reise is more of the same -- the same grit, the same growl, and the same dramatic, orchestra choruses. There's a bit more ingenuity in the production and a little more focus in the songs but not enough for the nonfaithful to pick up on. Unfortunately the lead single, "Mein Teil," is no "Du Hast," but the damning "Amerika" almost equals their breakthrough track. Whether or not Rammstein's label has the guts to release the band's acerbic "Coca-Cola/Sometimes War" view of the States as a single is another question, but it's the key track to the album, an album that has a couple more, minor surprises. The ...

| | Jane's Addiction Nothing's Shocking CD (1988)
Compilation
$7.29 Jane's Addiction: Perry Farrell (vocals); David Navarro (acoustic & electric guitars); Eric A. (acoustic guitar, bass); Stephen Perkins (drums, percussion). Additional personnel: Angelo Moore, Flea, Christopher Dowd (horns). Engineers: Dave Jerden, Ronnie S. Champagne, Andy Harper. Recorded at Eldorado Studios in Los Angeles, California. Although Jane's Addiction's 1987 self-titled debut was an intriguing release (few alternative bands at the time had the courage to mix modern rock, prog rock, and heavy metal together), it paled in comparison to their now classic major-label release one year later, Nothing's Shocking. Produced by Dave Jerden and Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell, the album was more focused and packed more of a sonic wallop than its predecessor; the fiery performances often create an amazing sense that it could all fall apart at any second, creating a fantastic musical tension. Such tracks as "Up the Beach," "Ocean Size," and one of alt-rock's greatest anthems, "Mountain Song," contain the spaciousness created by the band's two biggest influences, Led Zeppelin and the Cure. Elsewhere, "Ted, Just Admit It..." (about serial killer Ted Bundy) and the haunting yet gorgeous "Summertime Rolls" stretched to epic proportions, making great use of changing moods and dynamics (something most alt-rock bands of the time were oblivious to). An incredibly consistent and challenging album, other highlights included the rockers "Had a Dad" and "Pigs in Zen," the horn-driven "Idiots Rule," the jazz instrumental "Thank You Boys," and the up-tempo "Standing in the Shower...Thinking." Like most great bands, it was not a single member whose contribution was greater: Perry Farrell's unique voice and lyrics, Dave Navarro's guitar riffs and wailing leads, Eric Avery's sturdy basslines, and one of rock's ...
