Many assumed that German rockers Accept would finally break through commercially with their 1986 release, RUSSIAN ROULETTE. Their previous two releases (1984's BALLS TO THE WALL, and 1985's METAL HEART) had built a solid cult following amongst metalheads stateside, and with such other up-and-coming metal acts as Metallica and Megadeth finding their niche, it seemed that Accept would be next in line.
RUSSIAN ROULETTE has a more commercial feel than its predecessors, perhaps aiming at the pop metal audience that had previously embraced bands like Motley Crue. While the album has its share of highlights ("Heaven Is Hell," "Stand Tight"), the change in direction would prove detrimental; longtime singer Udo Dirkschneider split shortly thereafter to form his own band, UDO, while Accept soldiered on with substitute singers.

Avoid No wonder Udo left after this pathetic attempt to create pop-metal. Every other album before sold me immediately. I tried multiple times to force myself to like it ("It's really good, you just need to give it time!.."), but to no avail. I'd rather play Russian Roulette than have to be forced to listen to this again. I'd give zero stars if it were available. Submitted by Mike (Hondo, TEXAS, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
best heavy metal album ever! "Russian Roulette" is an incredible metal-opera, tragic and devastating. Accept are at their best with an impressive guitar sound and the harsh-dramatic voice of Udo Dirkschneider. "TV War" is a sarcasthic and brutal vision of the modern world told with speed energy. "Russian Roulette" is pure heavy-titanic metal (what powerful choir!) and "Stand Tight" end this album with an hard march that seems a totaliristic nightmare, telling about slavery and abominion. Every song of the album is a masterpiece. Simply a metal-legend.

$6.49 The Sweet Thing Vocal Association: Joanie Bye, Joanie Taylor, Lovena Fox, Sue Leonard, Cecille Laochelle, Linda Hunt (background vocals).
Digitally remastered using 20-bit technology by George Marino (1998, Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
After selling more than 12 million copies of SLIPPERY WHEN WET (and becoming the light-metal champions of the decade), Bon Jovi took its "Wanted Dead Or Alive" rock n' roll cowboy theme to the next level on NEW JERSEY. The album was produced by Bruce Fairbairn and engineered by Bob Rock-two masters when it comes to maximizing a band's sound. Pledging allegiance to the band's home state, NEW JERSEY reeks of attitude, emotion, and the need to party.
"Lay Your Hands On Me" is a venerable cock-rock anthem, while the hooks and chorus of "Bad Medicine" 'continued the band's Top 10 streak. "Blood On Blood" tells the story of childhood friends who maintain their bond to the end. "99 In The Shade" provides the musical backdrop for a group of friends taking an impulsive July cruise to the nearest shoreline. NEW JERSEY closes with "Love For Sale," a drunken sing-along about romance gone sour. The album represents Bon Jovi at the band's creative peak. Like a dream meeting of Bruce Springsteen and Clint Eastwood (with some Guns N' Roses thrown in for good measure), NEW JERSEY maintains Bon Jovi's harder-edged early sound while elevating the band to superstar status.

| | Metallica CD (1991)
Russian Roulette CD music
$15.65 When a genre-defining group like Metallica, whose past albums have rocked the charts with virtually no airplay, enlists the aid of a hit-making producer like Bob Rock, the result is bound to be monumental. METALLICA, their sixth studio release, surpasses all expectations.
METALLICA is an extremely heavy album. It carries a presence, a huge, live sound different from that heard on their previous recordings. What once could not be tamed has been refined, resulting in a fuller, more powerful guitar sound in an already guitar-intensive band. They have evolved from the messy, unabashed thrashers of their youth into a more confident, poised and angry bunch, not only retaining their fire but stoking it into a chunky, tight-fisted maelstrom of scowling energy.
Serious riffs provide punch and punctuation for James Hetfield's gruff vocals which rage against society and religion, and revel ...

Russian Roulette songs
$17.05 LAMENTO NEGRO won the 2002 Latin Grammy Award for Best Folk Album.
1986's Lamento Negro was recorded not in Susana Baca's native Peru, but in Cuba with a group of musicians left uncredited on the sleeve. (Before getting your hopes up, no, it doesn't sound like any members of the Buena Vista Social Club are involved.) Although elements of the more familiar Afro Peruvian style first introduced to U.S. audiences on 1997's Susana Baca are present and accounted for (note the glorious "Maria Lando"), Lamento Negro incorporates elements of Afro-Cuban jazz, Brazilian pop, and even classical art song. Most of the tracks, rather than being traditional songs, are musical settings of poems by the likes of Pablo Neruda, Mario Benedetti, and Cesar Vellejo. The resulting tracks are often bracing, but they tend to be hemmed in by the meter of the poetry itself; the ...

| | Vivian Green Vivian CD (2005)
Russian Roulette music CDs
$7.59 In the three years after Vivian Green released A LOVE STORY, she had a child and fleshed out the neo-soul nuances that made that 2002 debut such a delightful surprise. VIVIAN reflects the Philly native's increased confidence, and exhibits her willingness to incorporate more hip-hop spice into her overall sound. Much as they did on her first record, the trials and tribulations of romance continue to be Green's muse. Chuck Treese's rapid-fire acoustic-guitar riffs spice up the indignation of "Mad," and the sharper beats on the samples lacing "I Like It (But I Don't Need It)" give Green a mix of vulnerability and determination reminiscent of Mary J. Blige.
Green's unwillingness to settle for sub-standard treatment also comes across in the lush but melancholy "Gotta Go Gotta Leave (Tired)." Green also finds plenty of positivity in her love life, though. There's a willingness to make her relationship work amid the swaggering beats and scratching of "All About Us," and a fantasy about having a tryst with her significant other within the swirling ambiance of "Sweet Thing."
