Many assumed that German rockers Accept would finally break through commercially with their 1986 release, RUSSIAN ROULETTE. Their previous two releases (1984's BALLS TO THE WALL, and 1985's METAL HEART) had built a solid cult following amongst metalheads stateside, and with such other up-and-coming metal acts as Metallica and Megadeth finding their niche, it seemed that Accept would be next in line.
RUSSIAN ROULETTE has a more commercial feel than its predecessors, perhaps aiming at the pop metal audience that had previously embraced bands like Motley Crue. While the album has its share of highlights ("Heaven Is Hell," "Stand Tight"), the change in direction would prove detrimental; longtime singer Udo Dirkschneider split shortly thereafter to form his own band, UDO, while Accept soldiered on with substitute singers.CD Review - Performance 3 / Sound 7 CD Review Reader Consensus - Performance 8.7 / Sound 9.4 Accept Russian Roulette Songs | 1. | T. Avoid No wonder Udo left after this pathetic attempt to create pop-metal. Every other album before sold me immediately. I tried multiple times to force myself to like it ("It's really good, you just need to give it time!.."), but to no avail. I'd rather play Russian Roulette than have to be forced to listen to this again. I'd give zero stars if it were available. Submitted by Mike (Hondo, TEXAS, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
best heavy metal album ever! "Russian Roulette" is an incredible metal-opera, tragic and devastating. Accept are at their best with an impressive guitar sound and the harsh-dramatic voice of Udo Dirkschneider. "TV War" is a sarcasthic and brutal vision of the modern world told with speed energy. "Russian Roulette" is pure heavy-titanic metal (what powerful choir!) and "Stand Tight" end this album with an hard march that seems a totaliristic nightmare, telling about slavery and abominion. Every song of the album is a masterpiece. Simply a metal-legend.

| | Between The Buried And Me Great Misdirect CDs (2009) Bonus DVD; Deluxe Edition; Digipak
Russian Roulette
$16.90 After Between the Buried and Me pushed metalcore purists away with their most progressive release, COLORS, they decided to push even harder for their fifth release. A diverse outing with an unruly amount of genres crammed into only six songs, THE GREAT MISDIRECT is a highly adventurous, very convoluted, wildly dynamic, and extremely difficult listen. Briggs, Waring, Rogers, Waggoner, and Richardson are in top form, with their script-flipping abilities intact and their technical chops at their most extreme. This is a guitarists' album first and foremost (although bass players and drummers are in for a treat, as well), and the playing, while showy, is incendiary. Like a cross between Dream Theater (whom they toured with in 2008) and Dillinger Escape Plan, Between the Buried and Me meld creative aptitude and roaring fury as they skate genres, stapling together speed metal, hardcore, carnival jazz, chamber pop, and a few indefinable Mike Patton-esque styles. "Fossil Genera -- A Feed from Cloud Mountain" fuses loungy Henry Mancini piano with metal guitar and guttural growls in a lighthearted way, but this only lasts for a few minutes; the song takes a dark turn into eight minutes of screaming speed metal before seguing into an epic orchestral outro with syrupy singing by vocalist Tommy Rogers. To fit the many moods, Rogers readily switches moods between painful howls and heartfelt singing (with lyrics mainly dealing with alien abductions, the inner workings of the human brain, and magic), but he passes the microphone to guitarist ...

| | Five Finger Death Punch Way Of The Fist CD (2007)
Russian Roulette
$13.55 As its name indicates, Five Finger Death Punch packs a serious sonic wallop. On WAY OF THE FIST, the band offers up its appealing brand of metal, which moves between hardcore, ominous black metal, and melodic metal a la System of a Down or Alice in Chains. Tunes like the opener "Ashes" and "Salvation" are cases in point, alternating pummeling, in-your-face verses with winding, ...
| | Ozzy Osbourne No Rest For The Wicked CD (1988) Remastered
Russian Roulette
$7.59 Digitally remastered by Brian Lee and Bob Ludwig (Gateway Mastering Studios, Inc.).
Although Ozzy Osbourne received enormous commercial success with 1986's THE ULTIMATE SIN, his detour into glam metal proved unsatisfying for both Osbourne and his fans. Osbourne spent most of 1987 readying his postponed live album with Randy Rhoads for release, TRIBUTE, and pondering his future musical direction. He elected to return to the kind of music that got him where he was in the first place--loud, unapologetic heavy metal. He also decided to replace guitarist Jake E. Lee with a young newcomer from New Jersey, Zakk Wylde, for 1989's NO REST FOR THE WICKED. Wylde had been a lifelong Ozzy/Sabbath fan, and resembled Randy Rhoads both in appearance and in playing style.
While the album is not on par with such past classics as BLIZZARD OF OZ and DIARY OF A MADMAN, NO REST FOR THE WICKED did represent a return to Osbourne's roots (thanks in part to longtime Queen producer Roy Thomas Baker). Osbourne tackles a range of subjects throughout, such as crooked televangelists ("Miracle Man"), serial killer Charles Manson ("Bloodbath in Paradise"), and even his own struggle with alcoholism ("Demon Alcohol"). Also included is the concert favorite and ...

| | Vivian Green Vivian CD (2005)
Russian Roulette
$7.59 In the three years after Vivian Green released A LOVE STORY, she had a child and fleshed out the neo-soul nuances that made that 2002 debut such a delightful surprise. VIVIAN reflects the Philly native's increased confidence, and exhibits her willingness to incorporate more hip-hop spice into her overall sound. Much as they did on her first record, the trials and tribulations of romance continue to be Green's muse. Chuck Treese's rapid-fire acoustic-guitar riffs spice up the indignation of "Mad," and the sharper beats on the samples lacing "I Like It (But I Don't Need It)" give Green a mix of vulnerability and determination reminiscent of Mary J. Blige.
Green's unwillingness to settle for sub-standard treatment also comes across in the lush but melancholy "Gotta Go Gotta Leave (Tired)." Green also finds plenty of positivity in her love life, though. There's a willingness to make her relationship work amid the swaggering beats and scratching of "All About Us," and a fantasy about having a tryst with her significant other within the swirling ambiance of "Sweet Thing."
Contains an untitled hidden track on track #14.
