| | Leonard Cohen Future CD Leonard Cohen Discography of CDs
Leonard Cohen's 1992 release, THE FUTURE, is both a cynical attack on civilization and a spiritual edification, with the gruff-voiced theme "I've seen the future...it's murder." From the sinister whisper of the opening title track, the mood ... Full Descriptionmoves to the redemptive optimism of "Light As A Breeze," and the sardonic political march, "Democracy." There's a highly unlikely cover of Irving Berlin's "Always"; peculiar for an artist known more for his lyrical poetry than for his interpretive skills. But Leonard Cohen's voice translates uniquely to interpreting pop standards, and he gives the song a highly original bluesy read. Another unlikely cut is the closing instrumental, "Tacoma Trailer," featuring fine Synclavier work by Bill Ginn.
THE FUTURE is brimming with the tormented poetry for which Cohen is so well-known. His foghorn voice is close to a murmur on many songs, and he sets the mood (dark and foreboding), as he often does, through the able assistance of his omni-present female back-up singers. With the superb lyrics of songs like "Waiting For The Miracle" and "Closing Time," Leonard Cohen remains rock's preeminent poet.

Rolling Stone (1/7/93, p.45) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...THE FUTURE is epic...[and] might as easily have been a book: A more troubling, more vexing image of human failure has not been written..." Spin (1/93, p.62) - Highly Recommended - "...Cohen's basically an old folkie-poet-novelist, and regardless of his musical inclinations, the words are paramount....A lustrous album..." Entertainment Weekly (12/18/92, p.58) - "...Hope springs eternal on THE FUTURE, flourishing in majestic melodies....Cohen's vision isn't depressing; it's just unflinching..." - Rating: A Q (1/93, p.79) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...It's as worthy a successor [to I'M YOUR MAN] as could be hoped for, and compared to his contemporaries' recent efforts, blooming genius..." NME (Magazine) (11/28/93, p.31) - 6 - Good - "...Leonard Cohen admirers will, no doubt, adore this with a passion..." Hide Description Leonard Cohen Future Songs | 1. | The Future |

| | Essential Willie Nelson CDs (2003) Limited Edition; Remastered
Future songs
$15.79 This CD commemorates Willie Nelson's 70th Birthday (April 30, 2003).
The catalog of Willie Nelson is so vast and rich that assembling an "essential" collection of only one or two discs seems nearly impossible. RCA's single-disc 1995 attempt was admirable and worthy, but doomed by space limitations. With a bit more room to move, Legacy's roomier two-disc collection is about close as anyone could hope to come. We get the full view of the great singer/songwriter's artistic journey.
"Hello Walls" and the evergreen "Crazy" hail from the days when Nelson was tooling around Nashville as a songwriter for hire but mystifyingly unable to connect as a solo artist. His transformation into a counterculture icon via the '70s "outlaw country" movement is marked by the likes of "Me and Paul" and "Bloody Mary Morning." His tremendous skill as in interpreter can be heard in such standards as "Blue Skies" and "Georgia on Mind," which helped make him a crossover success in the STARDUST era. Latter-day collaborations with everyone from Aerosmith ("One Time Too Many") to U2 ("Slow Dancing") ...
| | Johnny Cash Legend CDs (2005) With Book; Box Set
Future album
$41.99 Few artists in any genre can rival the recorded legacy of Johnny Cash, so it's impressive that Columbia took on the daunting task of compiling a box set that spans his career from 1955 to 2002. While this collection doesn't feature tracks from any of Cash's acclaimed albums for the American label, it does present a few songs recorded during that '90s/early-'00s era, offering listeners selections that touch upon each decade of the country superstar's studio output.
With its thematically arranged CDs, THE LEGEND revisits a number of Cash's finest Sun singles, showcasing his unmistakable deep voice and signature "boom-chicka-boom" sound on classics such as "I Walk the Line" and "Folsom Prison Blues." The bulk of the songs here, however, come from Cash's extensive Columbia '58-'86 run, most notably the passionate "Ring of Fire" (co-penned by his future wife, June Carter) and "A Boy Named Sue," his tongue-in-cheek narrative hit. The fourth disc focuses on Cash's many collaborations, presenting the Man in Black paired with everyone ...

Future CD music
$16.45 One wonders if this is what experiencing a good LSD trip was like -- dust! is a delightfully eerie album that sounds about three decades (at least) out of its own time. Anyone looking for a follow-up to Surrealistic Pillow or Notorious Byrd Brothers can random access this CD and find exactly what they're looking for, and the sheer audacity of tracks like "Sway" or "Just Let Go," and their left-turn into bluesy country on "The Ballad of Lucy and Lucky" is par for a delightfully challenging course, filled with surprises that sound like they've been retrieved by time-machine from across the first seven decades of the 20th century -- and sometimes overlaying two decades ...
