| | Aerosmith Gems CD Aerosmith Discography of CDs
(4 Customer Reviews)
Digitally remastered by Mark Wilder (CBS Records Studios, New York, New York).
During Aerosmith's first tour of duty at Columbia Records, the group established a reputation as America's premiere hard rock band. The group has influenced bands ranging from Guns N' Roses to R.E.M., who covered "Toys in the Attic." GEMS can be looked at as the follow-up to GREATEST HITS, the band's prior compilation. Unlike GREATEST HITS, which focused on chart hits and radio-familiar tracks, this collection leans more toward the band's harder-rocking material.
Listening to early songs like the stripped-down "Mama Kin" or the fuller and more sinister "Lord of the Thighs," it is clear how Aerosmith attracted such a devoted following. As the group refined its craft, it also developed its trademark sass and swagger, best represented on the wailing "Critical Mass" and the autobiographical "No Surprize." Even on the sizzling "Jailbait," a track recorded by the post-Joe Perry/Brad Whitford lineup, Aerosmith's hard-hitting delivery is still there. Another standout is the Yardbirds' "Train Kept a Rollin'," a song that over time has almost become Aerosmith's own.

Thunder and lightning have struck When I first this album in the Winter of 1989, I was blown away by the power and force that these songs blaired out at me. This was an album full of songs that are not all that radio freindly but yet make you want to listen to them over and over again. Most every of the songs are raw, tight, and just plain great staight up rock n'roll. Another must have for anyone who loved earlier Aerosmith or anyone just discovering Aerosmith for the first time!!! Submitted by a reviewer (Minneapolis, MN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A excellent foolow-up greatest hits collection! Gems the second greatest hits volume offers more of their classics hard rock edge heavy metal showcase. With the rest of Aerosmith's early 70's heyday. I can't name a few songs on this CD here but it's all good just to let you know! Submitted by CDJay (Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada!) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Gems album
$11.18 With Adam Lambert, American Idol finally got a finalist who was completely, utterly contemporary, aware of what's hip in music and culture and aware of how music is made and consumed in 2009, never seeming to try to follow fads or set trends, just embodying the time. Mercifully, he came in second to Kris Allen, for if he came in first he may have had to tame his self-styled glamazon ways. A second place finish allowed Lambert to come out of the closet and indulge in his penchant for theater on his debut, For Your Entertainment -- which isn't quite the same thing as camp, for if Adam Lambert is anything, he's earnest about his dress-up, never winking at the audience because he doesn't think there's much funny about his glitter and mascara: that's just what pop stars are supposed to do. He's learned that by listening to his stacks of Queen and Bowie records, from watching old MTV videos on YouTube, from living in a present that always competes with the ever-present past, so he takes it all at face value, mixing up arena rock guitars, new wave, disco, operatic overdubs with a constant electro pulse, glassy modern R&B, and the vague Euro strains of new millennium teen pop. All this makes For Your Entertainment very, very modern in a way few mainstream pop albums are in 2009, whether they're products of the American Idol/19 machine or not: Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Rivers Cuomo, P!nk, Lady GaGa, Linda Perry, Ryan Tedder, Muse's Matthew Bellamy, and Justin ...
| | Bon Jovi The Circle CDs (2009) With DVD
Gems CD music
$15.30 Bon Jovi's 2007 effort, LOST HIGHWAY, found New Jersey's finest brandishing a Nashville-tinged, commercial rock/country crossover sound that wasn't too far a stretch from their usual arena rocking anthems for the Everyman. And where that album sometimes tried too hard to fit into the conventions of trad country, sacrificing some of the fist-pumping potency of their best `90s-era ...

| | Mark Knopfler Get Lucky CDs (2009)
Gems songs
$22.09 With the release of GET LUCKY, Mark Knopfler has made as many solo studio albums as he made group studio albums with Dire Straits, which itself may be a signal that it's time to stop comparing his two careers and simply accept them as separate entities. Of course, since Knopfler was the lead singer, chief instrumentalist, and songwriter for Dire Straits, there are obvious similarities, even if he has taken a deliberately different path as a solo artist. Basically, he's a lot quieter. "Border Reiver," the first song here, begins with a pennywhistle and a piano, then strings join in. Soon enough, Knopfler's distinctive conversational baritone begins calmly intoning lyrics, and eventually there are examples of his melodic fingerpicked guitar style on both acoustic and electric guitar. He even works up to a smoldering swamp rock shuffle, a la J.J. Cale, on "Cleaning My Gun." But that's as close as he comes to really ...

| | Bill Haley Mister Rock 'N' Roll CD (1973)
Gems songs
$5.55 The 12 songs on this album are of surprising interest, though you'd have to look hard to see why amid the plethora of latter-day Bill Haley material on the market. Later in his career, Haley cut any number of live and studio recordings, re-creating his '50s hits which have been repackaged countless times, but Mister Rock 'N' Roll is made up of a dozen of the sides that he cut for Mexico's Orfeon label during the mid-'60s, when he and his band were still arguably near their prime and before they were relegated to the oldies circuit. These tracks have also been little heard in the United States (they're not even represented on either of the two Bill Haley boxes from Bear Family Records), and completists have every reason to at least hear them. The band here is pretty solid; in addition to Haley on vocals and rhythm guitar, Frannie ...
