"Thank God I Found You" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.
Mariah Carey's lilting voice is so attractively airy that even when she's getting down and dirty on RAINBOW's numerous groove-heavy tunes, the overwhelming effect is one of a soothing aural massage. The mix of pop and R&B here is a link to Carey's past efforts, but the injection of a hip-hop flavor on several tunes points the way toward the singer's future.
Carey hasn't changed her style so radically as to partake in rapping; instead she's assisted by some talented guests, like Jay-Z, who enlivens the opener "Heartbreaker," and the "Heartbreaker" remix, where Mariah is flanked by Missy Elliot and Da Brat." On the poppier side, there's a stately piano ballad co-written by the ubiquitous Diane Warren and an unexpected cover of the Phil Collins hit "Against All Odds," which Carey delivers with soul and faithfulness to the original version. RAINBOW provides just the right balance between the old Mariah that fans know and love, and the new Mariah, who refuses to stop growing.

Rolling Stone (11/25/99, p.101) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...a sterling chronicle of the state of accessible hip-hop balladeering at the close of 1999....at its best...when urbane hip-hop stylings and faux R&B coexist in smooth middle-of-the-road harmony." Entertainment Weekly (11/12/99, p.80) - "...sweeping ballads that conceal even as they appeal. In this sense, RAINBOW...is a revelation....brimming with richness and vulnerability only hinted at before....perhaps the first compelling proof of Carey's true colors as an artist." - Rating: B+ Vibe (12/99, p.258) - "...finds her going deeper into her 'urban' motif....[as] she pulls out all the stops, singing over samples [and] also rocking those dreamy power ballads....RAINBOW will garner her even more adoration..." | Rainbow Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Mariah Carey - Pretty Rainbow This CD as well as Mariah Carey herself alone, more than PROVES that looks REALLY do matter in music. Personally, I'm fed up with fans always claiming that looks in the business DOESN'T matter. You young ones ever hear of artists like Phoebe Snow or Tracy Chapman? Okay, Chapman can actually write good songs. A few of the tunes on Carey's 'Rainbow' CD are okay. Submitted by straight_man1975 (everywhere..) Was This Review Helpful? Well Done Mariah!!! Well, what can I say?
I think this album is the best from Mariah. You're gonna love every song from ballad such 'Can't Take That Away', 'After Tonight', 'Againts All Odd' to sweet hip-hop flavor such as
'Ex-Girlfriend', 'Crybaby', and to sweet Mariah's pop style as a usual, 'Heartbreaker' and a five-octave demonstrated song: 'Bliss'
Buy this one and you will find a new adventure into Mariah's world with herself. Each songs recorded with a very high quality from Mariah. And no other artist can do it but her.
You can proof it with this smash album!!! Believe me. Submitted by houseofbutterfly (Indonesia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 2 of 2 found this helpful.
A GREAT ALBUM This is Mariah's second album after her divorce with Record company CEO Tommy Mottola, she proves she doesn't need him or anyone to make a great album. Hits like "Heartbreaker", "Can't Take That Away", "After Tonight", "Did I Do That?" and the beautiful ballad "Thank God I Found You", betcha it gave Tommy a ran for his money. This was also the year that pop sensations Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Jessica Simpson came out. Still Mariah proved to stand out. This is one remarkable album! Awesome Album! Mariah Carey is THE best artist there is! She has a great sound that never gets old, yet she always puts a new twist on her style. 'Rainbow' is one of the best R&B albums there is, even though it's now 7 years old. Mariah will always be an insperation. Go pick up this album! Rainbow album
$13.49 Sade's longest absence yet did not prevent their return from being an event. It at least seemed eventful whenever "Soldier of Love," released to radio a couple months prior to the album of the same title, was heard over the airwaves. Even with its brilliantly placed lyrical allusions to hip-hop past and present and its mature sound, the single stuck out on stations aimed at teens and twentysomethings, as well as points on the dial that ...

With the exception of Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, one would be hard pressed to name a Motown act who went through as many creative shifts as the Temptations. While Wonder's and Gaye's changes of direction were a product of their own creative rebellion against Berry Gordy's brilliant but often formulaic vision, the Temptations seemed to be the label's ...

Rainbow album
$12.69 "Among the Trees" is J-BALL's debut, 17-track CD released on his independent record label "R00T L0VE ReC0RDS" (December 2002). It's an album filled with melodic songs that help create a diverse fusion of Alternative Rock, Folk and Hip-Hop music. J-BALL's unique style of Singing, Songwriting, Guitar playing and Producing shine throughout the album leaving his listeners hooked. Among the Trees was Written and Produced entirely by J-BALL. It was recorded in Austin, Texas at Clockright Studios during the hot Summer days of 2001 and 2002 (Assisted by: Bassist Bradley Corl, Drummer Shane Vannerson and Engineer Jason Richard). However, the album's concept manifested three years earlier during J-BALL's inspirational stay ''among the trees'' of Humboldt County, California. Among the Trees is an emotional, musical voyage containing 14 catchy songs, 3-tracks of funny studio outtakes (with surprise answering machine messages), a cappella J-BALL flows and even a hidden track. In the words of the great Rap group Public Enemy, "don't believe the hype." Take a listen to our Mp3s and find out for yourself. Here, at R00T L0VE ReC0RDS, we encourage freedom of speech.
