Recorded between 1964 and 1975. Includes liner notes by David Fricke and Bob Irwin. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel were initially inspired by the Everly Brothers and under the name Tom And Jerry enjoyed a hit with 'Hey Schoolgirl'. The ... Full Descriptionduo reunited in 1964 for Wednesday Morning 3AM, which included an acoustic reading of 'The Sound Of Silence'. Producer Tom Wilson made the presumptuous but prescient decision to overdub 'Sound Of Silence' with electric instrumentation and an album titled after the million-selling single was rush-released early in 1966. Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme had a varied mood from the grandly serious 'For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her' to the bouncy '59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)'. The duo contributed Mrs. Robinson to the soundtrack of the 1968 film, The Graduate. That same year saw the release of Bookends, a superbly-crafted work. In 1969 the duo released the celebrated Bridge Over Troubled Water. One of the best-selling albums of all time, the work's title track became a standard with its lush, orchestral arrangement and contrasting tempo. While at the peak of their commercial success, the duo became irascible and their partnership abruptly ceased. Since then there have been sporadic reunions, most notably The Concert In Central Park.

Rolling Stone (11/27/97, p.109) - "...manages to have it both ways, providing a reminder of their impact and a fresh perspective on it, simultaneously. The concert performances are folksy and spare, highlighting Garfunkel's aching vocal harmonies and Simon's ambitious songwriting reach..." Entertainment Weekly (12/12/97, pp.84-86) - "...OLD FRIENDS is the model of an efficient, enlightening box, its three discs alternating hits and album tracks (which have never sounded better, thanks to newly unearthed master tapes) with unreleased live cuts and a smattering of rarities..." - Rating: A Hide DescriptionPurchase Old Friends CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Paul Simon Songs From The Capeman CD (1997)
Old Friends album
$29.09 This is a collection of songs written by Paul Simon and Derek Walcott for their Broadway Musical, "The Capeman."
When Paul Simon released GRACELAND, it seemed like the apex of an already impressive career. A few years later, he compounded expectations by extending both his reach and his grasp with the Brazilian-tinged RHYTHM OF THE SAINTS. Continuing his tradition of raising the aesthetic bar, Simon explores new vistas yet again with SONGS FROM THE CAPEMAN. The album features his versions of the songs he wrote with poet Derek Walcott for the play THE CAPEMAN.

It's more than just journalistic shorthand to refer to Kylie Minogue as the European Madonna. She's been at it as long as the Material Girl, and her mix of sexy style and dance-pop sound is very much in league with that of her American counterpart. The catch here is that, while Minogue had previously only been a star in Europe, FEVER represents her American breakthrough. Not surprisingly, the sound of FEVER will appeal to fans of Madonna's MUSIC album. It's full of bubbly synths, amiably poppy melodies, club beats and sensual vocal ...

$9.25 DUETS is a compilation of duets and contains a new duet recording with Barry Manilow, "I Won't Be The One Let Go".
Barbra Streisand's long and varied career is the stuff of legend, as the actress/director/songstress consistently takes chances, never content to rest on her laurels. DUETS, a collection of her collaborations, reflects this wide-sweeping talent, amassing tracks from every facet of Streisand's career. DUETS includes partnerships with stars of pop, country, soul, disco, rock, songwriters of a bygone era, and stars of Broadway and opera. It boasts a track from probably the most famous record to bear the same title (Frank Sinatra's DUETS), a live duet with Dorothy herself culled from a 1963 episode of the Judy Garland Show, and the underappreciated mellow-cool "Guilty" with Bee Gee Barry Gibb.

| Bob Dylan No Direction Home: The Bootleg Series Vol. 7 CDs (2005)
Old Friends CD music
$16.09 The soundtrack to Martin Scorcese's two-part PBS documentary on Bob Dylan, NO DIRECTION HOME is a two-disc affair consisting almost entirely of previously unreleased material. One couldn't start any further towards the beginning of Dylan's career than this collection's first track, "When I Got Troubles," a modest, folkish tune caught on tape by a high school friend and presumed to be the first original Dylan song ever recorded. From there, we follow the breakneck trajectory of Dylan's early career, as he develops at an unprecedented rate, from young Woody Guthrie acolyte (a rare version of Guthrie's signature tune "This Land is Your Land") to his own protest songs (Town Hall, NYC performances of "Masters of War" and "Blowin' in the Wind").
It's Disc Two where things really kick into overdrive; having made the leap from folk balladry to surreal word paintings, we hear Dylan developing musically by leaping into electric rock & roll. It's an undeniable thrill to hear the sacred texts of HIGHWAY 61 ...

Ever since their version of Bacharach-David song,"Close To You" hit the charts in 1970, the Carpenters have long seemed the epitome of anti-rock. Actually, Richard Carpenter revered the Beatles and Beach Boys just as much as Burt Bacharach. So there was more of a continuum with the '60s pop/rock tradition than appearances might suggest. Karen Carpenter is simply a singer of the first rank, comparable to pop divas like Patsy Cline and ...
