5 stars THE "TOP GUN" SOUNDTRACK ,IS AS GOOD AS THE MOVIE!!
THERE ISN'T ONE SONG THAT I CAN THINK OF THAT SHOULD BE IN THIS COLLECTION.THEY ARE ALL HERE! This has to be the best feel good soundtrack ever! This is an 80's classic and will not let you down if you love this sort os music,infact it will cheer you up alot. "TOP GUN" IS IN THE 'TOP 10' BEST SELLING SOUNDTRACKS WORLDWIDE EVER.ENOUGH SAID.

I love this soundtrack, but I deduct a star for the once again omitted score by Harold Faltermeyer.

5 stars A Classic
The Top Gun Soundtrack is one of the best that I have heard in a LONG time. The lyrics are just as cool as the music it they are matched with. Although much of the music in it's time period is something you can jsut roll your eyes at, and just plain strange, this CD does not follow suite. Way to go Top Gun!

Nights Are Forever was the breakthrough album for Dan Seals and John Coley after some sincere and excellent work on A&M Records in the early '70s. Two of their biggest hits were the title track and the beautiful "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight." Those songs are a good indication of the fine performances this 1976 album contains. The duo's originals like "Long Way Home" and the Dan Fogelberg-ish "Westward Wind" could have been hits as well displaying superb musicianship and delicate vocals. The sincerity of their days on A&M Records has turned to total formula by the time Dr. Heckyl & Mr. Jive came around -- and Robert Louis Stevenson expert, author Ray McNally, makes it clear in his book on Mr. Hyde that the true pronunciation is Dr. Jeekill (as in, "I Kill and Hide"). It is quite a paradox that this justified attack on the Hollywood system uses the mispronunciation of this famous title which Hollywood forced upon the world. Were these singers that clever to have slipped this in as a sly parody? Probably not -- because the sentiment in the poem ...

Originally released on RCA (2795). Includes reissue liner notes by Michael Hill. Digitally remastered by Elliott Federman (SAJE Sound, New York, New York). "Moon River" might be Henry Mancini's biggest hit, but it was Mancini's score for Blake Edwards's 1964 farce THE PINK PANTHER that introduced his music to generations of children; the haunting, jazzy main theme was used in dozens of cartoon shorts that were broadcast on television for years. Aside from that familiar tune, the majority of this soundtrack consists of swinging-'60s jazzy pop exotica with a Continental flair and a sly sense of humor, most notably the madcap "Shades of Sennett." You also get one of Mancini's finest pop songs, "It Had Better Be Tonight," here in both an instrumental and a vocal version, with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. (Sadly, the version in Italian sung in the film by Capucine has never been on any of the soundtrack releases.) This reissue also includes four tracks from 1974's RETURN OF THE PINK PANTHER. The Pink Panther is another fine, early-'60s soundtrack from Henry Mancini.
