Janis Joplin's PEARL, from 1971, is a bluesy, organ-drenched benediction for the flower-child sound of the free-and-easy 60's. It is also one of great singer's most consistent and representative efforts. Gone are the ear-shattering sonics of ... Full DescriptionBig Brother and the Holding Company, and Full Tilt Boogie, the backing band here, steps in to offer a degree of polish and control that frames Joplin's vocals nicely. Yet the band still grooves hard with the fierceness her voice demands. Guitarist John Till's riffs, chords, and solos, in particular, are exciting and tightly executed.
"A Woman Left Lonely" and Bobby Womack's "Trust Me" are rain-on-the-windows ballads that come alive with Joplin's gritty vocal brilliance, while the burbling "Move Over" and "Half Moon" are among her funkiest, most driving cuts. The dramatic "Cry Baby" is offset by the tongue-in-cheek a cappella number "Mercedes Benz," while Joplin's version of Kris Kristofferson's "Me and Bobby McGee" went on to become her signature song. Joplin died during the sessions for PEARL, making these tracks the final word on her towering talent and a superb addition to her enduring legacy.

Pearl CD music
$7.55 This 1995 reissue of THE WHO SELL OUT includes songs and jingles not available on the original version.
Originally released on Track (612002/613002). Released in the U.S. on Decca (4950/74950) in 1968.
Only three albums into its recording career, the Who had already begun to distance itself from its proletarian R&B beginnings. Here, songwriter Pete Townshend follows up on the rock-opera idea he had introduced on A QUICK ONE with the extended, multi-part composition "Rael" and would later expand upon with TOMMY. The band had also begun exploring ...

Pearl music CDs
$11.89 Principally recorded at the Record Plant, New York, New York in April and May 1968.
This edition of ELECTRIC LADYLAND comes packaged with the CD ELECTRIC LADYLAND. Both are also available separately.
Aired on VH-1 and PBS, the video of ELECTRIC LADYLAND includes new interviews, performances, and additional footage not previously seen.
Principally recorded in April and May 1968 at the Record Plant, New York, New York. Some tracks recorded earlier at Olympic Studios, London, England.
On ELECTRIC LADYLAND Jimi Hendrix stretched and experimented in the studio, going beyond the power-trio format on what would be his last studio album with the Experience. ELECTRIC LADYLAND was revolutionary in its scope and execution. Using New York City's Record Plant as a gateway to free expression, Hendrix traversed an abstract landscape containing compositions as weird and wonderful as "...And The Gods Made Love" and "1983...(A Merman I Should Turn To Be)."
Simultaneously looking forwards and backwards, Hendrix mixed in a song reminiscent of his time on the chitlin' circuit (Earl King's "Come On [Part 1]"), a Bob Dylan favorite ("All Along The Watchtower"), and one of his ...
| | Jimi Hendrix Are You Experienced? CD (1967)
Pearl songs
$10.85 This 1997 reissue of ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? is a remastered version that restores the original LP's track order and album artwork. ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? was previously reissued in 1993 (MCA 10893) with new cover art and a new 17-track running order that included all the songs on either the U.S. or U.K. versions of the original LP. That version is now out of print, and has been replaced by this one, on the Experience Hendrix label, which features remastered versions of the same 17 songs, this time in the order they appeared on the original American LP, with the extra tracks added to the end (a separate version was simultaneously released in the U.K., featuring the same songs but in the original British track order). The Experience Hendrix label is controlled by Hendrix's family.
The 1997 reissue also adds a 24-page booklet with previously-unpublished photos, the original LP liner notes and song lyrics.
Recorded in late 1966 and early 1967 at Olympic Studios, London, England.
Jimi Hendrix's debut recording was an instant classic, and is as startling today as when it first hit the streets in 1967. ARE YOU EXPERIENCED? is probably the most rock-oriented of Hendrix's official studio releases, but its influences are incredibly diverse. "Third Stone From The Sun" recalls the supple octaves of jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery; ...

BLUE marks the culmination of Mitchell's early, traditional singer/songwriter period, and it is one of the very best albums of that genre. Though she was already beginning to experiment with elements of pop and jazz, BLUE focuses on Mitchell's skill as a folk singer, showcasing her reedy, expressive voice in duet with her piano or guitar. The arrangements on the album--which feature keys, dulcimer, bass, and assorted percussion--are spare and tasteful, so much so that it is easy to overlook ...

Pearl Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Janis's wonderful album from 1971.... This title by Janis Joplin, "Pearl" was released in 1971, about a matter of months after her untimely death from a heroin overdose back in the fall of '70. She was still working on this title when she passed on. Some people would think of this album as a "tribute" to her, because I assume that "Pearl" might have been her nickname (from what I learned, I guess). Anyway, this title has some neat tracks. Cry Baby, Half Moon, A Woman Left Lonely, Me and Bobby McGee, Move Over, and Mercedes Benz are all neat to listen to. The song Mercedes Benz is fun to listen to because Janis first talks by saying she was "going to do a song of great social and political import", and said "It goes like this." There is no instrumentation in this song because she's only slapping her leg and singing the lyrics and when she is done, she says, "That's it." and starts laughing (the entire song lasting about 1 minute). Very comical. My mother had this album years ago on LP (but gave it away) and now, I have it on LP and CD. I used to have the tape of it, but I might have lost it or thrown it away. This is a wonderful album that will always be dedicated to a wonderful person who was taken from the world and the entertainment industry too soon. God bless you, Janis!!!
